The Slime Golem is a hostile mob added by Golem Overhaul. It is a Monster-category golem with two sizes: a large one with 50 health that splits into two to four small golems when it dies. Each golem is chosen as large or small with equal chance when it spawns, so a player may meet either size on its own. Slime Golems are melee attackers, and a split from one large golem can leave several small ones close together.

Spawning

Slime Golems spawn in two ways.

• Surface spawns: in biomes that allow surface slime spawns, between Y 51 and Y 69. Each attempt must pass a 50% roll, a moon-brightness roll (a brighter moon makes it more likely) and a light check: the raw light level must be no higher than a random value from 0 to 7. Surface spawns therefore need dim light.
• Slime chunk spawns: in slime chunks below Y 40. Each attempt has a 1 in 10 chance to pass. These spawns happen underground.

Natural spawning also uses the mod's overworld biome entries: a weight of 25 with group sizes of 1 to 2 in overworld biomes, and an extra swamp entry with weight 1 and a group size of 1. The biome list is shown in the spawn table below.

Spawn eggs and spawners also create Slime Golems. Golems created by a spawner use the normal monster spawn rules and skip the surface and slime chunk checks. Golems created from a spawn egg or a spawner choose their size on creation, the same as natural spawns. Golems that come from splitting keep the size they were given. Natural spawns can be turned off in the server config with the spawnSlimeGolems option.

Behavior

A Slime Golem has the following stats by size.

Slime Golems use the same AI as other golems from Golem Overhaul. They melee their target at speed 1 and look for a target within 16 blocks. The target must be a hostile mob (an Enemy), and creepers are excluded. A Slime Golem does not pick players or other golems as targets on its own. It does retaliate: when it is hurt, it attacks the attacker, which can be a player, and it alerts nearby golems from this mod.

Each attack plays one of two arm swings, chosen at random. The attack animation lasts 22 ticks. The melee hitbox is widened by 0.5 blocks on the horizontal axes, so a Slime Golem can hit a target slightly to the side.

When a large Slime Golem dies, it splits into two, three or four small golems placed around its position. The new golems keep the original's custom name, its persistence flag, its no-AI state and its invulnerability. Small golems do not split.

A Slime Golem can be repaired by right-clicking it with a slime ball. Each slime ball consumes one item and restores 10 health. The repair fails if the golem is already at full health.

Drops

A Slime Golem drops 1 to 3 slime balls on death, from its loot table. The drop table is shown below. Large golems give no experience. Each small golem gives 6 experience, so a large golem that splits into two to four small ones yields 12 to 24 experience in total.

Tips

• Fight Slime Golems in an open area. A large golem's split can put two to four small golems around you at once.
• Keep a stack of slime balls on hand. Repairing a damaged golem costs one ball for 10 health, which is cheaper than fighting a fresh one.
• Watch the light level when you build or farm in the overworld. A dark, moonlit surface near Y 51 to 69 is a likely spawn spot, and a slime chunk below Y 40 can produce them underground.
