Mod List

From the Fear Nightfall wiki · Fear Nightfall

The Mod List is the complete set of mods that make up Fear Nightfall, a horror-themed modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. The pack is built on about 130 mods across the client and the server. Most of them add content, such as mobs, structures, biomes, food or magic. Others change how the game runs, add libraries that other mods need, or adjust the client's display. Each mod's own article explains what it adds and how it plays. This page shows which mods are installed, at what version, and what role each one has in the pack.

A player who wants to know where a feature comes from can find the responsible mod here and follow its link. The pack is not a plain collection of the upstream mods. Several of them were changed, merged or disabled so that they work together. The Changes to Vanilla article and the sections below summarise those changes.

Installation and sides

Each mod is marked as both (needed on the server and the client), server (installed only on the server, with no effect on the client) or client (installed only on the player's game, for display or performance). A server-only mod adds nothing that a client must load, so a client can join without it. Clients must run every mod marked both, using the same mod files as the server, to connect.

Immersive Lanterns is the notable exception to the server-only rule in the other direction: its client version needs Sodium Dynamic Lights, which does not work with the pack's Sodium version, so clients join without it. The shader mods are optional on the client and are not needed to play.

Versions are the ones the pack ships. Where a mod's newest release does not run on NeoForge 1.21.1, the pack uses an older build, as with Structory: Towers.

Libraries and dependencies

Many mods above need other mods to run. These libraries are installed automatically and have no gameplay of their own. Examples are Architectury API, Curios API, GeckoLib, Lithostitched, Moonlight, TerraBlender, Cristel Lib and Moog's Structure Lib. Technical and Library Mods describes each one.

Client-only mods

These mods run only on the player's game. They change display, performance or controls, and they do not affect what the server generates.

  • Sodium 0.8.13, Iris and Complementary Reimagined: the rendering engine and optional shader support. Shaders are off by default and are selected in Video Settings.
  • Entity Culling, More Culling, Dynamic FPS and ImmediatelyFast: rendering performance.
  • Better Advancements, Not Enough Animations, Overflowing Bars, Falling Leaves, Mindful Darkness, Mouse Tweaks and YUNG's Menu Tweaks: interface and visual tweaks.

Sodium Dynamic Lights and Sodium Options API are not installed. Both use Sodium classes that are not in version 0.8.13, so the client would not start with them.

Removed and changed mods

  • Boat Break Fix is not installed. Its jar was a 2022 build for an older Minecraft version and never loaded.
  • Sodium Dynamic Lights, Sodium Options API and Reese's Sodium Options are not installed, for the reasons above.
  • Nature's Compass uses a changed recipe: diamonds replace the saplings in the corners.
  • Immersive Lanterns is kept on the server only.

Pack changes

The pack changes the mods' behaviour where they conflict, and it adds its own data and configuration. The main changes are these:

  • Biome distribution. The custom fnfbiomes mod chooses each biome from every biome that the climate allows at that spot, weighted so that no single mod dominates. In measured land coverage, Terralith is about 31%, Regions Unexplored about 28%, Biomes O' Plenty about 25% and vanilla biomes about 15%. See Biomes and World Generation.
  • Structure coexistence. Villages, pillager outposts and witch huts from several mods are valid in the same biomes, and the game picks one of them for each spot, so they do not stack on one location. An overlap guard removes surface structures that would intersect a larger one. See Structures.
  • Structure density. Sparse Structures reduces the number of ordinary structures and raises the number of horror structures. See Horror and Spooky Content.
  • Loot. Structure chests have added loot, and the containers that generate in the world are Lootr containers, so each player has their own copy. See Loot and Chests.
  • Fixes. Bytecode patches and data fixes were applied to several mods to stop crashes, worldgen races and broken advancements. Changes to Vanilla covers the gameplay changes.
