The Beautify mod is a decoration add-on by Pandarix that adds about 53 block types of vanilla-styled furniture and lighting. Its content covers Blinds, Trellises, Picture Frames, lamps, candelabras, Hanging Pots, Book Stacks and Rope. It also adds the Botanist villager profession, its Botanist Workbench job site, and five village houses called the Botanist's House.

Beautify is useful to players who build interiors and lighting. It adds no hostile mobs, weapons, ores, dimensions or enchantments. Its lamps and candelabras give off light 14, which is bright enough that hostile mobs do not spawn in the area they light.

Overview

Every item that Beautify adds is a block item. The mod has no standalone items, no mobs that attack, and no new biomes. Its blocks behave like vanilla lanterns, chains, bookshelves and ladders, with a few custom features such as the toggling blinds and the growing hanging pots. The mod's creative tab, also named Beautify, uses the Hanging Pot as its icon.

Beautify's blocks can be crafted from common vanilla materials, such as sticks, slabs, wool, flower pots, candles and copper. Some are also found in village chests or bought from the Botanist villager. The mod's changes to the base game are small: it adds five village houses to vanilla village street pools and a new villager profession. Nothing in the mod changes the base game's mobs, spawns or combat.

Content

Beautify's blocks fall into these groups:

Each block has its own crafting recipe and loot table, and each one drops itself when broken.

Mechanics

Toggling blinds

Right-clicking a blind opens or closes it. By default, the top blind of a same-type stack is the toggle root, and a toggle also flips up to six blinds below the clicked blind and same-type blinds beside it. Closed blinds under another blind are hidden from view. Iron Blinds need the correct tool to drop.

Light sources

Lamps and candelabras are the mod's main light sources, with some hanging pots also giving light. A Light Bulb or Bamboo Lamp toggles on and off with right-click and emits light 14 when on. The Glowstone Essence Lamp fills with glowstone dust in steps of five, up to 15, and its light rises from 8 at the first step to 14 when full. A candelabra is lit by right-click with an empty hand or by flint and steel, and it emits light 14 while lit.

Hanging pots

A hanging pot holds one of 26 plants. Bone meal grows the plant, unless the block below is a full face, and an empty hand or shears harvest it. The pot emits light 7 with glow lichen and 14 with glow berries, and emits no light with any other plant.

Lattices, rope and ladders

Lattices and rope can be climbed like ladders. A lattice can hold one of nine plants, including roses, vines, weeping vines and glow lichen. Every lattice counts as flammable on all faces, whatever its wood type.

Botanist villager and houses

The Botanist villager has five levels of trades, with 20 trades in total. Its trades use emeralds costing one to four each, and they cover the plant blocks and the trellis types. Its workbench is the only job site block for the profession.

The five Botanist's House variants are added to the plains, snowy, savanna, taiga and desert village street pools. Each house spawns in its own biome tag. In the plains, desert and taiga groups, the biome tags also include biomes from optional mods such as Terralith and Biomes O' Plenty, which match only when those mods are present.

Book stacks and picture frames

Right-clicking a book stack or a picture frame cycles through its models. Each book stack counts as one bookshelf for enchanting table power.

Changes to vanilla

  • Village pools: The mod adds the Botanist's House to the vanilla street pools for plains, snowy, savanna, taiga and desert villages, at a default weight of 2 per pool entry. This affects every village that uses those pools, including villages added by other mods.
  • Enchanting: A Book Stack gives the same enchanting table power as a bookshelf, and no other block in the mod does so.
  • Mining tags: Blinds and lattices join the vanilla axe-mineable tag. Iron Blinds and candelabras join the pickaxe-mineable tag. The Botanist Workbench joins the job site block tag.
  • Villager trades: The mod adds trades only to the new Botanist profession. No vanilla profession changes.

Beautify does not add loot to vanilla chests, override any vanilla recipe, or change spawns, redstone, hunger or combat.

In Fear Nightfall

  • Loot fix: The pack corrected 11 Beautify loot tables that were written in a pre-1.21 format.
  • Village houses: All five Botanist's House placements use the same spacing of 38 chunks and separation of 11 chunks, and they share one placement salt. Because they share one placement grid, a biome that matches more than one set can generate only one of them.
  • Configuration: Beautify's server config, beautify-server.toml, sets the blind search radius to 6, the toggle root to the top blind, and the Botanist house weight to 2. These are the mod's default values.
  • Horror theme: Beautify contains no hostile content. Its light sources are the lamps, the candelabras and the hanging pots holding glow lichen or glow berries.
