Botanist (villager)

From the Fear Nightfall wiki · Beautify

The Botanist is a villager profession added by Beautify. It is the only new villager profession in the Fear Nightfall pack. A Botanist sells plant decoration and building blocks, including hanging pots, flower pots, vines, trellises, dripleaf, spore blossoms, moss, azaleas, rooted dirt and hanging roots. Players want a Botanist mainly for these blocks, which are otherwise hard to collect in quantity, and because the profession gives access to Beautify's decorative plant blocks through trade rather than through mining or farming.

The profession is bound to the Botanist Workbench, which is its job site block. The Botanist has 20 trades spread across five levels. Villages can also generate with a Botanist already in place, in a house built around a workbench (see Botanist's House).

Obtaining a Botanist

A villager becomes a Botanist when it claims a Botanist Workbench as its job site. A villager with no profession that is near an unclaimed workbench takes it and changes profession. A workbench already claimed by another villager cannot be used again. Players who want a specific Botanist can craft a workbench, place it, and wait for an unemployed villager to claim it. See Botanist Workbench for the recipe.

Villages that generate with a Botanist's House also contain a Botanist placed beside the workbench inside the house. The house pieces are added to vanilla village street pools, so a Botanist can appear in any village built from those pools.

The profession uses the point of interest type beautify:botanist_workbench_poi. Beautify adds this type to the vanilla acquirable job site tag. No vanilla profession is changed.

Trades

Trades unlock as the villager levels up through trading. The five levels use the vanilla names: Novice (level 1), Apprentice (level 2), Journeyman (level 3), Expert (level 4) and Master (level 5). The table below lists every trade with its emerald cost and result.

The trades are grouped by level as follows.

The trade emerald costs run from 1 to 4. Big dripleaf is the most expensive trade, at 4 emeralds. Every Beautify trade is created with a price multiplier of 0.02, so the price rises only slightly as the player trades the same offer repeatedly.

A player who wants a spore blossom must first raise the Botanist to level 3, and a player who wants moss blocks or azalea must reach level 4. Rooted dirt and hanging roots need level 5.

Village houses

Each village house built around a workbench contains one Botanist. The houses are added to the plains, snowy, savanna, taiga and desert village street pools with a pool weight of 2 per house, set by the botanistSpawnWeight server config option. Setting that option to 0 keeps the houses out of the village pools. Standalone placement of the houses is covered on the Botanist's House page.

Each house chest holds plant and farming supplies, so the house is also a source of the flower pots, saplings and bone meal that the Botanist trades for. The chest loot is listed on the Botanist Workbench page.

Fear Nightfall notes

The Botanist does not change any vanilla profession, and it has no combat or night behaviour. The villages that hold Botanists are normal villages in the biomes listed on the Botanist's House page.

Mods that add trades to every profession will also add trades to the Botanist. A mod that replaces the acquirable_job_site tag with replace: true can remove the workbench as a job site, and the Botanist will then not appear in new villages.

Tips

  • Trade for the trellises first if a build needs them in several wood types. Each wood type is a separate trade, so buying them all needs nine different offers.
  • Raise a Botanist to level 5 before buying rooted dirt or hanging roots. Those trades are not available at lower levels.
