The Hanging Pot is a decorative block added by Beautify. It is a flower pot that can be hung from blocks or ropes as well as placed on the ground, and it can hold one of 25 plants. Its light level depends on the plant it holds, so a potted glow lichen or glow berry plant also works as a light source on dark nights.

The Hanging Pot is a block item with a stack size of 64. It has a hardness of 0.1 and a blast resistance of 0.1, and it can be broken by any tool or by hand.

Obtaining

Hanging Pots are obtained by crafting, as loot in Botanist's Houses, and by trading with the Botanist villager profession. The block does not generate naturally in the world.

Usage

A Hanging Pot holds either nothing or one plant. Its hitbox depends on how it was placed: the hanging form is taller than the standing form placed on the ground.

Planting

Right-clicking an empty pot with one of the following plants places it in the pot, and one of the plants is consumed unless the player is in creative mode:

  • Rose Bush, Lilac, Peony and Sunflower
  • Blue Orchid, Azure Bluet, Allium, Dandelion, Poppy, Oxeye Daisy, Cornflower and Lily of the Valley
  • Red, Orange, White and Pink Tulip
  • Vine, Weeping Vines and Twisting Vines
  • Glow Lichen, Glow Berries and Sweet Berries
  • Short Grass, Fern and Wither Rose

Right-clicking a pot that already holds a plant with the same plant item adds that item back to the stack and empties the pot. Right-clicking with a different item does nothing.

Growing

Bone meal grows the plant in the pot. Bone meal works only on a pot that holds a plant and only if the block directly below the pot is not a full solid face, which prevents the plant model from clipping into the block. Each use consumes one bone meal, unless the player is in creative mode. A grown plant is marked as grown, and a grown pot yields two plants when it is harvested instead of one.

Harvesting

There are two ways to harvest the plant from a Hanging Pot:

  • With an empty hand, right-clicking the pot removes the plant and empties the pot. A grown plant gives 2 items, and an ungrown plant gives 1.
  • With shears, right-clicking a grown plant cuts it back to the ungrown state and drops one plant item. The plant stays in the pot.

Ungrowing

If the block directly below a grown pot becomes a full solid face, the pot returns to the ungrown state and drops one plant item. The plant remains in the pot. This happens to prevent the grown model from clipping into the block below.

Light

The light level of a Hanging Pot depends on the plant it holds:

Plant Light level
Glow Lichen 7
Glow Berries 14
All other plants, or an empty pot 0

A pot holding Glow Berries therefore emits a light level of 14, which is the strongest light the block can produce.
