The Botanist Workbench is a decorative block added by Beautify. It is the job site block for the Botanist villager profession and has no interface: right-clicking it does nothing. It is crafted from flower pots and planks. Its only gameplay role is to bind a villager to the Botanist profession, which unlocks the trades listed on the Botanist (villager) page.
Obtaining
Players obtain the workbench in these ways:
- Crafting: see the recipe below.
- Breaking: the block drops itself as a single item.
- Villagers: a villager with no profession that is near an unclaimed Botanist Workbench takes it as its job site and becomes a Botanist. Vanilla job site rules apply, so a workbench already claimed by another villager cannot be used.
Crafting
The recipe is a shaped crafting recipe: the top row holds 2 flower pots and the bottom row holds 2 planks of any type, which makes one Botanist Workbench. Because the planks slot accepts the minecraft:planks tag, every plank type works. The generated grid above shows the alternatives.
The recipe is unlocked by obtaining a flower pot, through the advancement "Botanist Workbench".
Usage
The Botanist Workbench is a horizontal directional block with four facings (north, south, west and east). When placed, it faces the opposite direction from the player, so the side with the raised section faces the player. Its collision and outline shape is a 12-pixel-tall base with a 4-pixel-tall raised section on one side. The shape changes with the facing.
Its mining properties are:
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Hardness | 2.5 |
| Blast resistance | 2.5 |
| Correct tool | Any tool |
| Stack size | 64 |
The item tooltip, shown while holding Shift, reads "Workbench for the Botanist Villager."
Botanist profession
The Botanist villager profession is bound to the workbench through the point of interest type beautify:botanist_workbench_poi. This type is also added to the vanilla minecraft:acquirable_job_site tag, so a workbench can be claimed by villagers as a job site. Beautify adds 20 trades to the Botanist profession. No vanilla profession is changed.
Village houses
Each of the five Botanist's House variants is added to the plains, snowy, savanna, taiga or desert village street pools, and spawns in its matching biome group. The chance of a house appearing in a village depends on the botanistSpawnWeight config option, which defaults to 2. Setting it to 0 keeps the house out of village pools.
Chests inside the houses use the Botanist chest tables. Their contents include an iron hoe with a random enchantment, flower pots, bone meal, poppy, sugar cane, saplings, dandelions, sweet berries, lily of the valley, dead bush, cornflower and cactus, depending on the variant.
Interactions with other mods
Mods that replace the vanilla minecraft:mineable/axe or minecraft:acquirable_job_site tags with replace: true can remove this block from the mineable set or stop it from being a job site. Other mods that add villager trades to every profession will also add trades to the Botanist profession.
