Weapons

Weapons in Fear Nightfall are the melee, ranged and spell-casting implements that come from many of the pack's mods. The pack does not have a single weapon system. Swords and axes come from Born in Chaos, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks and Sleepy Hollows; knives from Farmer's Delight and Butchery; bows, slingshots and shotguns from Tide, Supplementaries and Jaden's Nether Expansion. Each family has its own materials, durability and sources, so a player usually finds several weapon lines in parallel rather than one upgrade path.

Weapons are the main tool for dealing with the pack's horror mobs, which are often more common after dark. Some of the best weapons are not craftable at all: the Spectral War Axe and the Shatterbrand, for example, come only from loot bags. Melee weapons

Most melee weapons come from mods that add their own material tiers. The Born in Chaos Melee Weapons page covers the swords, axes, hammers, daggers, spears and maces that the mod adds. Many of them carry an effect that triggers on hit, on right-click or while held, so they are more than damage upgrades.

Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds swords, greatswords and a spear. Its top-tier swords are made from mod materials such as Mithril. Several of these swords have a preset spell that is cast with right-click, so they work as melee weapons and as spell implements. Sleepy Hollows adds the Spectral War Axe and the Shatterbrand. Both are unstackable and fire resistant with 2031 durability. Neither can be crafted, and the only sources in the pack are loot bags. The details are on Spectral Waraxe and Shatterbrand.

Farmer's Delight adds five knives in the tiers Flint, Iron, Golden, Diamond and Netherite. These are cutting tools that also count as melee weapons. Aquaculture Delight adds the Neptunium Knife, which has the highest durability in the knife set at 1796. See Knives for the full knife set.

Butchery adds cleavers, skinning knives, hammers and hacksaws, in six material tiers each: copper, iron, gold, diamond, netherite and bone. Cleavers and skinning knives use the sword class. Hammers use the pickaxe class and hacksaws use the axe class. See Butchery Tools.

Sons of Sins adds the Osseous, Flesh and Sinful tools. These are tool sets rather than dedicated weapons. See Sons of Sins Tools and Armor.

Ranged weapons

The Born in Chaos Staffs and Ranged Weapons page lists the firearms, horns and staves from Born in Chaos, including the Pumpkin Pistol with its Pumpkin Bullet ammunition.

Supplementaries adds the Slingshot, which is charged like a bow but fires block items instead of arrows, and the cannon, which fires cannonballs and other loaded items. Its Bombs are throwable explosives that can break weak blocks. The Quiver is an accessory that stores arrows and feeds them to bows and crossbows, so it is a practical companion to any ranged weapon.

Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds a crossbow and a wand, which are covered on Iron's Spellbooks Weapons.

Jaden's Nether Expansion adds the Phasmo Arrow, which passes through blocks, and the Pump-Charge Shotgun, an Epic-rarity shotgun that loads more pellets into each shot as it is pumped.

Tide adds the Starlight Bow, an Epic-rarity bow. Every arrow it fires becomes a Shooting Star projectile, and each shot has a 60% chance of not consuming ammunition.

Weapons with special behaviour

Several weapons in the pack are dangerous to use carelessly. A fully pumped Pump-Charge Shotgun can detonate itself as an overpump explosion. Bombs and cannonballs break blocks as well as hurting mobs, so they can damage the player's own base. The Pumpkin Bomb is a hostile mob rather than a weapon, but it is worth knowing about: it detonates about 1.2 seconds after it appears and afflicts nearby entities with Infernal Flame. It is summoned by Lord Pumpkinhead.

Sources

Weapons come from three main places in the pack:

• Crafting: most families have crafted tiers, with the recipes shown on their own pages.
• Smithing and upgrades: the Pump-Charge Shotgun is made by upgrading a Shotgun-Fist with the Pump-Charge Upgrade smithing template.
• Loot: the Spectral War Axe and the Shatterbrand are found only in loot bags. Other weapons appear in the pack's chests and drops; see Loot and Chests and Bosses.

Tips

• Keep spare ammunition on hand. A Quiver or a stack of arrows in the hotbar is more useful in a long fight than a single high-tier bow.
• Compare durability before relying on a weapon. The Spectral War Axe and the Shatterbrand have 2031 durability and the Starlight Bow has 750, so they last far longer than most early weapons.
