The Skillet is an iron-tier, durability-based item added by Farmer's Delight. It works as a melee weapon and as a portable cooking tool: the player holds it in the main hand, holds food in the other hand while standing near a heat source, and cooks the food without a Cooking Pot. It can also be placed on the ground as a block. Its main value is that it lets a player cook away from a base, which matters in the pack's horror biomes and structures.

Obtaining

The skillet is crafted from iron and a brick. It also appears in some abandoned mineshaft chests.

Both loot tables that include the skillet, the vanilla abandoned mineshaft table and the Farmer's Delight abandoned mineshaft table, give it at a 14% chance per chest, with an average of one item when it appears.

Usage

Cooking

Right-clicking with a skillet starts cooking if the player is standing within one block of a heat source, or is on fire. The check covers the 3×3×3 area around the player. The player must also hold a food item in the other hand that has a campfire-type cooking recipe. If the other hand holds no such food, the game displays "Use your other hand to hold ingredients!".

The food is moved into the skillet and the player starts using the item. The cooking duration comes from the recipe's cooking time:

  • The base time is 20% of the recipe's cooking time, truncated to whole seconds. A recipe with the default 600-tick time therefore cooks in 6 seconds.
  • Each level of Fire Aspect on the skillet lowers that fraction by 5 percentage points. Fire Aspect II gives 10%.
  • The result never goes below 3 seconds (60 ticks) and never exceeds the recipe's own time.

When the use completes, the cooked result is added to the player's inventory, or dropped if the inventory is full. If the player releases the use button early, the raw food is returned to the inventory and nothing is cooked. Cooking does not start while the player is underwater, and the game displays "Can't cook underwater...".

Flipping

While a skillet is in use, the attack key flips it. A flip takes 12 ticks, and the flip state toggles when the animation finishes. The server validates each flip.

Combat

The skillet deals 8 attack damage at an attack speed of 0.9, and it applies +1 knockback. Each hit that lands costs 1 durability out of 250. It is tagged as an enchantable melee weapon, so it accepts weapon enchantments.

Placing as a block

Sneak and right-click to place the skillet as a block. Placing it grants the "Sizzling Hot!" advancement. The block form has its own tooltip message, "Can't cook while flooded...", which applies when it is in water.

Interactions

  • A lit Stove is a heat source for the skillet, and it also heats a placed Cooking Pot and cutting board.
  • The skillet cooks with campfire-type recipes. The Cooking Pot has its own recipe set and is not used for skillet cooking.
