The Stove is a functional block added by Farmer's Delight. It cooks food placed on its top using a campfire cooking recipe, and needs no fuel: it cooks while it is lit. A lit stove also burns living entities that step onto it, so it is a hazard in walkways and at night.

Obtaining

Crafting

A Stove is crafted at a crafting table from iron ingots, bricks and a campfire. See the recipe grid below.

Usage

Lighting and extinguishing

A stove placed in the world starts lit. Its front faces the player who placed it.

  • A stove is ignited by right-clicking it with a flint and steel (1 durability is used) or a fire charge (the charge is consumed).
  • A lit stove is extinguished by right-clicking it with an item that has the shovel dig action (1 durability is used), or with a water bucket, which is returned as an empty bucket.
  • Extinguishing a stove stops cooking. Items already on it stay on it.

Cooking food

Right-clicking a stove, lit or unlit, with an item that has a campfire cooking recipe places one of that item on the stove. The stove has six slots, arranged as two rows of three, and each slot holds one item. Cooking time is taken from the recipe.

Only a lit stove advances cooking. Each tick while lit, an item's progress rises by 1. While unlit, progress falls by 2 per tick, down to zero. When an item finishes, the stove ejects its cooked result as an item just above the stove and the slot becomes empty.

Food cannot be placed on a stove whose top is covered. Placement is blocked when a block above the stove has a collision shape that overlaps the stove's grilling area, a 10 by 10 pixel square at the centre of the top, rising 1 pixel above the surface. Blocks whose shape does not reach into this area do not block placement.

Breaking a stove drops all items on it.

Burning

A lit stove burns living entities that stand on it. When an entity's bounding box intersects the grilling area, the entity takes 1 HP of damage with the farmersdelight:stove_burn damage type. Each hit also applies the Burning effect and adds 0.1 exhaustion. The damage type is tagged as fire damage, is excluded from knockback, and counts as an environmental cause that makes mobs panic. Lit stoves also report the fire path type to mobs, so mobs avoid them.

Entities that are sneaking are not burned, because sneaking counts as stepping carefully. Only living entities are hurt. Items and other non-living entities are not affected.

Interactions

  • A lit stove counts as a heat source for the Cooking Pot and Skillet, which both draw on heat from blocks such as this one.

Tips

  • Keep a stove unlit when it is not in use. Its items stop cooking, and nothing burns while it is unlit.
  • Avoid leaving a lit stove in a walkway or doorway, especially at night. Its burn damage and fire effect catch anyone who crosses it.
