The Knives are a family of cutting tools that double as melee weapons. Farmer's Delight adds five knives in tiers: Flint, Iron, Golden, Diamond and Netherite. Refurbished Furniture adds a separate Knife for its kitchen cutting board, and Aquaculture Delight adds the Neptunium Knife, which has the highest durability of the set at 1796. The Farmer's Delight knives are non-stackable tools with an attack speed of 2. They share one behaviour set: they cut on cutting boards, harvest straw, carve pumpkins, slice cakes, and count as knives in the item tags that pack content checks.

Crafting

The Flint, Iron, Golden and Diamond Knives are each crafted from one material combined with a stick. The Netherite Knife is not crafted directly. It is a smithing upgrade of a Diamond Knife at a smithing table, using a smithing template and a netherite ingot. The Refurbished Furniture Knife and the Neptunium Knife use their own recipes, shown below.

Loot and drops

Knives appear in structure chests. They are found in village butcher chests, bastion remnant chests, ruined portal chests and End structure chests, including End city and End castle chests. In Fear Nightfall, the Farmer's Delight loot tables are mapped onto the chests of several structures, so knives turn up in more places than in the base mod. The chance per chest for each knife is listed in the table below. Knives are not dropped by mobs.

Usage

Combat

A knife deals its listed attack damage and loses 1 durability on every hit that lands. Attack damage is 1.5 for the Golden Knife, 2.5 for the Flint Knife, 3.5 for the Iron Knife, 4.5 for the Diamond Knife and 5.5 for the Netherite Knife. Knockback dealt by a knife-wielding attacker is reduced by 0.1. Knives cannot use the Sweeping Edge enchantment.

The Backstabbing enchantment can only be applied to knives. It multiplies damage by 1.4 at level 1, then adds 0.2 per level above the first, so it reaches 1.8 times damage at its maximum level of 3. It applies when the knife strikes from behind the target.

Piglins are attracted to the Golden Knife, which is included in the vanilla piglin-loved item tag. The Netherite Knife is fire resistant and cannot be destroyed by fire or lava.

Cutting and carving

Knives provide the knife ability that Farmer's Delight cutting-board recipes require, so any knife can complete a knife-based cutting recipe. Those recipes cover items such as algae, mushrooms and some fish. The Neptunium Knife is required for the Neptunium variants of fish fillet recipes from Aquaculture Delight, which yield more fillets per fish than the standard recipes. Knives also interact with several blocks and items directly:

• Right-clicking a pumpkin with a knife carves it into a Carved Pumpkin and drops a Pumpkin Slice.
• Breaking a pumpkin with a knife drops a Pumpkin Slice instead of the pumpkin.
• Right-clicking a cake with a knife removes one bite and drops a Cake Slice. A cake is removed after six bites. Knives also slice pies (see Pies, Cakes and Sweets) and Feasts.
• Knives cannot break blocks in Creative mode.

Straw harvesting

Knives harvest straw from several plants. Breaking grass yields straw 20% of the time, and breaking tall grass does the same. Sandy shrubs yield straw 30% of the time. Mature Rice panicles and mature wheat also yield straw when harvested with a knife. Straw is used as fuel and as a crafting ingredient. See Straw, Canvas and Tatami.

Mob kills

Killing a mob while holding a knife can add extra drops. These include feathers, leather, string, rabbit hide and shulker shells. Ham and smoked ham drop from pigs and hoglins, and Looting increases those drops.

Adult sea turtles have a special drop when a player holding any knife kills them. Each kill makes two independent 50% rolls. One roll gives raw Small Turtle Meat. The other gives a Cooked Turtle Meat Slice if the turtle was on fire or the knife has Fire Aspect, and raw Small Turtle Meat otherwise.

Items

• Golden Knife: the weakest knife in combat, with 1.5 attack damage and 32 durability. It is attractive to piglins.
• Flint Knife: crafted from flint and a stick, with 131 durability.
• Iron Knife: 250 durability. It can be smelted or blasted into an iron nugget.
• Diamond Knife: 1561 durability. It is the base for the Netherite Knife.
• Netherite Knife: 2031 durability and fire resistance, the strongest Farmer's Delight knife.
• Refurbished Furniture Knife: a sword-class item with 131 durability. It chops items on a cutting board when fired from a dispenser, which uses durability. It is used in that mod's kitchen recipes. See Kitchen Utensils.
• Neptunium Knife: a sword-class item with 1796 durability and 5 attack damage. It is repaired with Neptunium ingots and is needed for the Neptunium fillet variants. See Neptunium.
