The Aquaculture Turtles are three passive creatures added by Aquaculture: the Box Turtle, the Arrau Turtle and the Starshell Turtle. Each is a land animal that can also move through water, and each has its own spawn egg and raw item. Turtles do not attack. Their main use is as an ingredient for Aquaculture Delight dishes, such as Turtle Soup.
In Fear Nightfall, the Box Turtle and Arrau Turtle spawn in the natural biomes listed below. The Starshell Turtle is only designed to spawn in Twilight Forest biomes, which are not part of this pack, so in practice it has to be obtained from its spawn egg or from a spawn source added by another mod.
Spawning
Box Turtles and Arrau Turtles are added to vanilla-style biome tags by Aquaculture's biome modifiers. Both use the CREATURE spawn category and spawn in groups of 1–2. The Box Turtle spawns in swamp biomes and the Arrau Turtle spawns in jungle biomes. Full biome lists and weights are in the table below.

The Starshell Turtle's biome modifier only includes biomes in the #twilightforest:in_twilight_forest tag, with weight 6 and groups of 1–2. Without the Twilight Forest mod installed, no biome qualifies, so the Starshell Turtle never appears in natural spawns.
Turtles use the normal creature spawn cap, so they compete with other passive mobs for slots in the same chunk.
Behavior
Turtles are Animal mobs with a TurtleLandEntity class, and they share one set of stats and one AI for all three variants. They have 10 maximum health (5 hearts), 1.5 armour and a movement speed of 0.1. Their follow range is 16 blocks. An adult turtle is 0.5 blocks wide and 0.25 blocks tall. A baby turtle is half that size. Turtles do not drown in water. Their water slowdown is set to 1.0, so they are not slowed by water.
Turtles run the following AI goals, in priority order:
- Swim (float): Keeps the turtle from sinking.
- Panic at speed 1.2: Runs away when hurt.
- Breed at speed 1.05: Mates with another turtle of the same type when both are adults and in love.
- Tempt at speed 1.15: Follows a player holding a food item from the
aquaculture:turtle_edibletag, which contains small flowers (#minecraft:small_flowers) and vines. - Follow parent at speed 1.1: Baby turtles follow their parent.
- Get out of water at speed 1.2 (1.4 for babies): When the turtle is in water, it searches up to 24 blocks away for a non-liquid block to move onto. It gives up after 1200 ticks.
- Random stroll at speed 1.0.
- Look at player within 6 blocks.
- Random look around.
Turtles never target players or other mobs. Their only defence is to flee.
Drops
Each turtle drops exactly one of its own item when killed. The loot table has one roll and one entry, so there is no random drop and no drop bonus from looting. The dropped item is the turtle's raw item (Box Turtle, Arrau Turtle or Starshell Turtle), which stacks to 64. These raw items are used as ingredients for cooking and crafting. They are not directly edible.
To get meat or scutes from a turtle, the raw item must be processed on a cutting board. The Box Turtle recipe on a cutting board gives one Turtle Meat Slice and a 5% chance of one Turtle Scute. Only the Box Turtle recipe was checked for this page. The other two turtles use the same item tags, so the processing recipes accept them as well.

Variants
The three turtles differ only by spawn source, texture and item. Their combat-relevant stats are identical. The generated table below shows each variant's stats.
| Mob | Health | Damage | Armor | Speed | Size | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Box Turtle | 10.0 | 1.5 | 0.1 | 0.5×0.25 | Passive | |
| Arrau Turtle | 10.0 | 1.5 | 0.1 | 0.5×0.25 | Passive | |
| Starshell Turtle | 10.0 | 1.5 | 0.1 | 0.5×0.25 | Passive |
Box Turtle
The Box Turtle spawns in swamp biomes with a weight of 11, the highest weight of the three turtles. Its spawn egg is aquaculture:box_turtle_spawn_egg.
Arrau Turtle
The Arrau Turtle is found in jungle biomes with a weight of 10. It is the turtle to look for in jungle regions and it shares the Box Turtle's stats and drop behaviour. Its spawn egg is aquaculture:arrau_turtle_spawn_egg.
Starshell Turtle
The Starshell Turtle is the rarest turtle and has no natural spawn in this pack, as explained above. It is intended for Twilight Forest biomes. Its spawn egg is aquaculture:starshell_turtle_spawn_egg. Its item and drop are identical to the other two turtles.
Related items
The turtle items are used as ingredients in Aquaculture Delight dishes. The Box Turtle is accepted by the cooking and crafting recipes for Turtle Soup, which is cooked in a Cooking Pot with a bowl, or crafted from a turtle, a water bucket and a bowl. Turtle Soup is a stack-1 food item that restores 6 hunger and 7.2 saturation. Recipe details are in the grid below.

- Keep the turtles fed and bred if you want a steady supply. Small flowers and vines are the only tempting foods, so a farm needs one of those items.
- A turtle that falls into water will walk out of it. Make sure it has a dry path, or it will keep searching for land.
- Killing a turtle only yields its raw item. To get meat and scutes, process the raw item on a cutting board.
- If you are looking for Starshell Turtles in this pack, use a spawn egg. Natural spawning requires the Twilight Forest mod, which is not installed.
