Tropical Jungle is a hot, humid overworld biome added by Terralith. It is one of the jungle biomes in the pack and carries both jungle and mountain biome tags, so structures and mods that key on those tags can generate in it. Its climate is hot and wet (temperature 0.95, downfall 0.9), and it rains here rather than snows. Its mix of dense vegetation, lava lakes, and a long monster list makes it hazardous to travel through at night.

Description

The biome uses bright green colours. Grass is #89dd4e, foliage is #b4ec4e, and water is #43d5ee. The fog is #c0d8ff and the sky is #92c6ff. The ambient cave sound and the jungle music track play here, which sets the biome apart from ordinary jungles.

Ground cover is a mix of grass, flowers, mushrooms, sugar cane, pumpkins, and melons. Vines hang from the trees. Terralith's coastal tree feature (trees_hawaii) and a jungle melon patch are placed on the surface, and bamboo, wild flax from Supplementaries, and wild rice from Farmer's Delight add to the undergrowth. Surface water comes in springs of water and lava. Lakes of lava are placed both on the surface and underground, so the terrain is more hazardous than a plain jungle.

Hanging and standing silk cocoons from Critters and Companions appear among the trees. Cave urns from Supplementaries are placed in the biome as well.

Generation

Tropical Jungle is generated by the pack's custom biome source. Its climate is set in the Terralith biome file (temperature 0.95, downfall 0.9, rain). In each climate cell, every biome whose original mod allows it there is eligible, and the biomes in that cell share the space by weight. Terralith as a whole covers about 31% of the land in this pack, but Tropical Jungle itself makes up only about 0.10% of the land surface. It is a rare biome in practice, and a player may need to travel a long way to find a large patch of it.

The pack's horror weighting does not include this biome. The 6× biome weights go to other horror biomes, and the pack's notes say jungles stay mostly normal. Its horror character comes from its monsters and structures.

Up to 183 structures can generate in this biome, including the vanilla jungle temple, Better Jungle Temples, the pack's shared village set, and mods such as Structory Towers and Firewatch Towers. See the structure table below for the full list.

Features

The surface and underground features come from the biome file and the pack's additions.

  • Trees and plants. Terralith's coastal Hawaiian-style trees, the standard jungle grass patch, flowers, mushrooms, sugar cane, pumpkin patches, melon patches, vines, and bamboo are placed on the surface. Glow lichen and bamboo light are also placed.
  • Ores. The biome uses the standard vanilla ore placements for andesite, diorite, granite, tuff, gravel, coal, iron, gold, redstone, diamond, lapis, and copper. It also receives the Born in Chaos infected diamond ore and black argillite placements, the Butchery sulfur ore placements, and the Iron's Spells mithril ore placement. See Mithril, Sulfur, and Black Argillite.
  • Water and lava. Springs of water and lava appear on the surface. Lakes of lava appear at both surface and underground levels. Underwater magma blocks are placed in water.
  • Disks. Sand, clay, and gravel disks are placed on the surface.
  • Stony cliffs. The Stony Cliffs Are Cool cliff feature is placed here.
  • Fish. The biome carries Tide's jungle-fish tag, which marks it as a jungle fishing area for Tide. See Tide Fishing.

Among the hostile mobs, the four vanilla monsters Spider, Skeleton, Creeper, and Slime share the highest spawn weight of 100. Ghoul (weight 25) and Necromancer (weight 18) come next, followed by Skeleton Creeper (weight 20). Dread Hound (weight 7) and Mutant Creeper (weight 5) appear less often, and the rarer horror mobs such as Krampus and Lifestealer have weights of 1.

Passive and ambient mobs include Red Panda (weight 8), Leaf Insect (weight 14) and Jumping Spider (weight 2). In water, the most common ambient mob is the Piranha (weight 20), and the most common water creature is the Corpse Fish (weight 3).

Notable structures include the vanilla jungle temple and the Better Jungle Temple from YUNG's, Jungle Tree Village from CTOV, Firewatch Towers, Structory Towers and Illager Hideout and Manor. Villages here come from the pack's shared village set, which weights all village types equally, so the village found in the biome may be any of them.

Tips

Carry a light source and keep an eye on the ground in the jungle. Lava lakes and springs can appear in the open, and the mix of ores and monsters makes caves in this biome slower to clear. Hostile mobs spawn in darkness here as elsewhere, so the long monster list is the main reason to avoid travelling at night. Ghouls (weight 25) and Necromancers (weight 18) are among the most common hostile mobs here, after the vanilla monsters, so plan for them before entering the biome after dark.

Piranha are the most common water ambient mob (weight 20), so take care when swimming in the open water. Tide's jungle fish can be caught with Tide Fishing. The structures here are good places to find loot, and the pack adds loot from supported mods to the mapped vanilla chests in them.
