The Mage Towers are overworld structures added by Terralith. Each one is either a tall tower or a complex of several buildings joined by roads. They generate in the pack's mage-themed biomes and are guarded by illagers, a witch and an axolotl. They are not part of the pack's horror set, so they follow the general structure settings and are scarce.

Generation

Mage Towers generate in the Overworld, on the surface. The base tower appears in Moonlight Valley, Lavender Valley, Mirage Isles and Amethyst Canyon. The complex appears in Amethyst Rainforest, Moonlight Grove and Lavender Forest. Each of the four Skylands seasonal biomes (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) has its own seasonal tower variant.

All six structures share one placement set. Each has equal weight, so a placement picks the base tower, the complex or one of the four seasonal towers with a 1 in 6 chance each. The set is spread out to an in-game spacing of 53 chunks, versus the mod default of about 28. In the 26 km² sample used for the pack's tuning, one base tower was found, and the complex and the seasonal towers were not observed. The pack thins out non-horror structures, so the set is rare compared with the village and outpost types.

The base tower is typically 48 by 82 by 48 blocks.

Layout

The base tower is a single template. The four seasonal towers use their own templates, which are of similar size to the base tower. The winter tower also has a different mob set (see Mage Towers).

The complex is built from several pieces. A central building, complex, is the starting piece. Around it are a barracks, three house variants and two road pieces, one straight and one crosswalk. The roads connect the buildings, so the complex is a small settlement rather than a single structure.

Inhabitants

Mage Towers have no boss. Each structure places a small set of mobs as part of its template.

  • Base tower and complex: Evoker, Pillager, Vindicator, Witch and Axolotl.
  • Winter tower: Stray replaces the pillager. The winter tower has the evoker, stray, vindicator, witch and axolotl.
  • Spring, summer and autumn towers: the same mob set as the base tower.

The evoker is the most dangerous of these. It summons evoker fangs and can call vexes. Pillagers and vindicators are melee and ranged threats that should be approached in a group or from cover. The witch throws harming potions. The axolotl is passive and does not attack.

Loot

Each tower has one loot table, the treasure table. The complex also has a barracks table and an extras table.

The treasure table has the best loot. Its main pool has a 30% chance of one or two diamonds. A second pool gives two to four rolls, where the most common results are bones, coal, paper, string and arrows. It can also give an amethyst cluster or a crossbow.

The barracks table gives emeralds, amethyst shards and bread, along with a bow or crossbow. The bow or crossbow is enchanted with 10 to 20 levels, with a 50% chance. It also gives one or two tipped arrows and a stack of plain arrows.

The extras table gives 3 to 4 rolls of emeralds, amethyst shards, bread and a small flower table.

Because the pack maps structure chests to vanilla chest roles, mage tower chests also take modded loot additions meant for stronghold library chests. The original Terralith loot is kept, and the extra items are added on top.

Tips

  • Approach from the side with the most cover. The evoker and pillagers attack at range, so keep a wall between you and them until they come into reach.
  • Fight the complex's mobs in small groups. Its buildings are spread along roads, so a player who moves through the middle can be surrounded.
  • Bring food and a full set of ranged ammunition. The barracks table gives bread and arrows, but its chests are a limited supply.
