Alpha Islands (Winter) (Terralith)

The Alpha Islands is a temperate, humid overworld biome added by Terralith. It is one of the biomes Terralith tags as rare island terrain, alongside Mirage Isles and Warped Mesa. In Fear Nightfall it is one of the biomes that make up Terralith's share of the land, and it carries a full monster list that includes several horror mobs from Born in Chaos.

Description

The biome has a grassy, temperate look. Its grass is tinted #b0ff7b, its foliage #78ff39, its water #274fff and its fog #c0d8ff. The sky is #79a6ff and the ambient mood sound is the cave ambience. Rain falls here rather than snow.

The biome has sand beaches along the water, with clay patches under the shallow sand, and oak trees and flowers on the grass. Its ground is grass blocks.

Alpha Islands (Winter)

terralith:alpha_islands_winter is the cold variant. Its temperature is 0 and its downfall 0.75, so precipitation is snow instead of rain. Its grass, foliage, water, fog and sky colours are the same as the standard biome. Its monster, creature and water spawn lists match the standard biome, and it shares most of its placed features with it. The winter variant does not get the wild carrot and wild onion patches that Farmer's Delight adds to the standard biome.

Generation

Alpha Islands is not part of vanilla's overworld biome table. The pack replaces that table with a custom biome source that gives each climate cell to every biome that its original mod allows there, shared out by weight. Terralith as a whole covers about 31% of the land in the pack, measured across a 32 by 32 km sample. The individual share of Alpha Islands is not separately measured.

The standard biome has a temperature of 0.7 and a downfall of 0.8. Its winter variant has a temperature of 0 and a downfall of 0.75. Its terrain is generated with a depth of -0.08 and a scale of 0.5.

Alpha Islands is not one of the biomes that the pack weights 6 times for horror. Horror content still reaches it through the monster and structure lists described below.

Features

  • Trees: the biome places oak trees. Each chunk gets four or five placement attempts, and 85% of the trees are plain oaks while the rest are fancy oaks.
  • Flowers: poppy and dandelion patches are placed on grass blocks.
  • Beaches: sand is placed over soil and gravel near the water. Clay patches replace sand in the same areas.
  • Ores: the standard coal, iron, gold, redstone, diamond, gravel and dirt ore placements apply. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and black argillite. Butchery adds sulfur ore. Iron's Spells 'n' Spellbooks adds mithril ore.
  • Plants and fluids: sugar cane, red and brown mushrooms, and spring water and lava.
  • Pack additions: Supplementaries adds cave urns and wild flax. Stony Cliffs Are Cool adds its cliff feature. Farmer's Delight adds wild carrot and wild onion patches in the standard biome.

Mobs and structures

Alpha Islands has no zombie sieges, no patrols and no wandering traders. Its creature spawns are sheep, pigs, chickens and cows. Its water spawns are a long list of fish and water creatures from the pack.

The monster list is long and mixes vanilla mobs with horror mobs. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes have the highest weight, followed by zombies. Horror mobs from Born in Chaos include Dread Hound, Krampus, Nightmare Stalker and Fallen Chaos Knight. The list also includes Necromancer and Slime Golem. The full weighted lists are in the table below.

Alpha Islands has 87 structures that can generate here, including floating islands, cathedrals, houses, mineshafts and villages from several mods. Firewell from Born in Chaos can also generate here.

Tips

  • Expect a lot of monsters at night. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes spawn in large numbers, and horror mobs spawn among them.
  • Because there are no zombie sieges, patrols or wandering traders here, you will not be pulled into those events while you work in this biome.
  • The winter variant spawns the same monsters as the standard biome, so the same night-time precautions apply there.
