The Jungle Mountains is a hot, humid overworld biome added by Terralith. It combines dense jungle vegetation with rocky, uneven terrain, and it is one of the places in Fear Nightfall where the jungle and the horror mobs share the same ground. It is classed as a jungle biome for tags and spawning, so jungle-only mobs, structures and features from other mods can generate here alongside the Terralith terrain. In Fear Nightfall it is rare, and its monster list is long and includes many of the pack's horror mobs.
Description
The biome uses jungle grass, jungle trees and a warm, wet palette. Grass is tinted #72aa06, foliage #71b406, and the water is #77e0f7, a pale blue-green. The fog is #a2bbd2 and the sky is #a1bce6, so the air looks slightly hazy and grey-blue rather than the bright green of a typical jungle. It rains here, not snows.
Vegetation is the main feature of the surface. The biome's vegetation list includes jungle trees, jungle grass patches, warm flowers, glow lichen, bamboo light, vines, brown and red mushrooms, sugar cane, pumpkin patches and melon patches.
The mountain part of the terrain comes from Terralith's rocky features. Cliff formations and stone and andesite slabs are placed on the surface, so the ground is broken by stone ledges rather than being flat jungle floor. Some surface lakes are lava, and the biome has underground lava lakes as well. Springs of water and lava appear in the rock.
The ambient sounds are the standard cave ambience, played every 6000 ticks, and the biome plays the overworld jungle music track.
Generation
The Jungle Mountains is a Terralith biome with a temperature of 0.95 and a downfall of 0.9, which places it in the hot, wet part of the climate map. It is tagged as lukewarm and as a jungle biome, so it appears where the pack's climate layout produces hot, humid land.
In Fear Nightfall the pack's biome source chooses biomes by weight within each climate cell. The Jungle Mountains is one of the smaller Terralith biomes in that mix. It covers about 0.05% of the land surface, so most players will only find it after walking a long way from the jungle biomes next to it. The terrain shape is unchanged from the base world; only the biome choice is affected.
The biome is not weighted toward horror. Jungles stay mostly normal in the pack, so this biome does not carry the extra horror structure weighting that the pack applies to forests, swamps and taigas.
Features
The features below are the ones the biome adds on top of the terrain.
- Rocky terrain. Terralith's cliff formation and the stone and andesite slab features place stone ledges across the surface.
- Ores. The biome has the standard overworld ore set in the lower and middle stone layers: coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond, including buried and large diamond veins. Granite, diorite, andesite and tuff are also placed as stone variants.
- Infected diamond ore. Born in Chaos adds its infected diamond ore features to this biome, so diamonds here may come in the infected variant as well as the normal form.
- Lava. Underground and surface lava lakes are placed in the biome, along with lava springs in the stone.
- Water. Springs of water appear in the rock. Wild rice patches are placed by Farmer's Delight, and the biome has jungle fish in its water.
- Geodes and monster rooms. Amethyst geodes and both the standard and deep monster rooms are placed in the stone. Monster rooms can hold zombies, skeletons and spiders, so opening a room is a risk.
- Silk cocoons and wild flax. Critters and Companions adds silk cocoons to the trees, and Supplementaries adds wild flax and cave urns.
Mobs and structures
The monster spawns are the largest part of the biome's mob list. The top spawn weights are Spider 100, Skeleton 100, Creeper 100, Slime 100 and Zombie 95. Below them the list includes Born in Chaos mobs such as Dread Hound (weight 7) and the Pumpkin family, and mobs from Mutant Monsters such as Mutant Creeper and Mutant Skeleton (weight 5 each). Most of the rarer horror mobs have weights between 1 and 10, so the common spawns are spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, with the rare horror mobs appearing occasionally.
Passive mobs are parrots, sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves, red pandas, ocelots and pandas. Water life includes piranhas, cave eels, deep groupers and angler fish. Bats and leaf insects are the ambient mobs.
The biome holds about 164 structures, which is a large number for a single biome. They include jungle temples, illager camps and hideouts, dead trees, jungle towers, catacombs, Born in Chaos structures and village types from several packs. The table below lists the full set.

Tips
Carry light sources into the jungle. Most of the spawn list is hostile, and the common spawns are in large groups after dark.
Watch for lava lakes on the surface before running across open ground near the stone ledges.
Mine the diamonds here, but check each one, because infected diamond ore is mixed in with the normal ore.
Do not open monster rooms without armour and a way to retreat. They can hold undead and spiders together.
