The Firewell is a horror structure added by Born in Chaos. It is a single-piece building made of Black Argillite and Nether-style blocks such as netherrack, crimson nylium, lava and magma blocks, and it generates on the surface of the Overworld. Its chests use one loot table, and it places a persistent Firelight inside. The structure is a fire-themed site rather than a dungeon, and its loot, mostly fire-related materials, is the main reason to visit it.

Generation

Firewell generates in the Overworld. Its placement uses the stronghold-biased biome tag, so it can appear in any of the 255 biomes that the tag covers, including forests, plains, deserts, savannas, taigas, jungles and snowy plains. It is placed during the surface structures step and is set onto the terrain surface, where the ground under the building is blended into the surrounding terrain.

Firewell is rare. The infobox shows its spacing, and in a 26 km² sample of the pack's world, 25 Firewells were observed. The pack's Sparse Structures configuration places it about 30% closer than the mod's default spacing, as it does for the other horror structures. Because it uses the stronghold-biased biome tag, it can overlap with structures from other mods that use common biomes; the pack's overlap guard skips a Firewell when a larger structure overlaps its footprint.

The structure is about 34 × 32 × 34 blocks. Its template contains no spawner block.

Layout

The Firewell is one piece. It has no sub-pieces and no rooms that connect to other structure pieces. The template is built from:

  • Black Argillite in many variants: plain, brick, chipped brick, carved, column, column slab, slab, stairs, wall, button, pressure plate and fired Black Argillite.
  • Netherrack and crimson nylium as ground and floor blocks, with lava pools and magma blocks set into them.
  • Chests holding the structure's loot, and chains hung from the structure.
  • Dark Metal Deposit blocks.

No puzzle or trap blocks appear in the template. The main hazards are the lava and the Firelight.

Inhabitants

Firewell places one Firelight in its template. The mob is the persistent variant, which does not despawn, so it remains in the structure until it is killed. Its behavior and drops are described on the Firelight page. Because it is a melee mob that sets targets on fire for 2 seconds on hit, it is the main threat in the structure, even though it has only 15 health.

Firewell does not contain a spawner, so no new mobs appear after the Firelight is killed. Other hostile mobs can still spawn on the surface around the structure according to the normal rules for the biome.

Loot

Each chest in the Firewell uses the loot table minecraft:chests/firewell_d. The table rolls 5 to 10 times, with up to 3 bonus rolls. Most rolls give fire-themed materials such as Fire Light Dust, coal, bone, magma blocks and blaze powder. The most valuable entries are:

  • Seed of Chaos, 1 to 2 per stack, and Shattered Skull, both from the Born in Chaos material set.
  • Piece of Dark Metal and Pile of Dark Metal, materials for Dark Metal equipment.
  • Dark Upgrade smithing template, which is the one entry in the table that is a smithing item and is rare.
  • Anluka Doors, which are the rarest entry in the table.

Fire Light Dust is the most common entry. It burns for 3500 units in a furnace and is used in the crafting of Scorched Wood. The full loot table is shown below.

Tips

Approach the Firewell at a distance and deal with the Firelight first. Fire Resistance prevents the fire damage from the Firelight's ignition, and a water source ends the burning quickly if fire resistance is not available. Carry a shield, which prevents the Firelight from igniting its target.

Obtaining

Firewell is found by exploring the Overworld. It is generated naturally in the biomes listed in the Generation section, and it is not craftable and not dropped by mobs.

The item Spawn Structures: Firewell places a Firewell at a chosen spot. It has no recipe in the mod data, and it is listed only in the Born in Chaos Debug creative tab, so it is only available in creative mode or through commands. The item stacks to 1 and is fire resistant.

Usage

Right-clicking a block with the Spawn Structures: Firewell item places a Firewell whose origin is the clicked block. The structure is placed without rotation or mirroring, and its entities, including the Firelight, are placed with it. The item then has a cooldown of 25 ticks (1.25 seconds) for the player who used it. The item does not check the terrain under the structure, so the building can be placed partly underground or over air.

The structure has no other special behavior in the mod data.
