The Abandoned Farm is a surface structure added by Born in Chaos. It is a single small prefabricated farmstead, placed in grassland and plains biomes. It is one of the mod's horror structures and holds a Pumpkin Spirit and a villager. Its chests hold mostly food and farming supplies.
The structure is rare enough that a player will usually find it by exploring rather than by chance on the way to somewhere else. Its spawn behaviour has been adjusted by the Fear Nightfall pack, described under Generation.
Generation
The structure generates in the Overworld as part of the surface structure step. Its placement uses a random-spread set with a base spacing of 45 chunks and a separation of 4 chunks. The Fear Nightfall pack's tuning sets the in-game spacing at 45 chunks, versus the mod default of about 64. On a 26 km² sample it appeared 12 times. The structure is a horror structure, so the pack places it more densely than the mod's default, and where it shares a structure set with other mods' structures, it has a higher weight (see Born in Chaos for the pack-wide structure changes).
In its own mod data the structure is restricted to four biomes: Meadow, Plains, Savanna and Sunflower Plains. The pack widens this to modded biomes that share the same climate and biome type, so in a Fear Nightfall world the structure can appear in about 43 biomes, mostly open, grassy, and farmland-like biomes, including Prairie, Brushland, Highlands, Clover Plains, Flower Fields and Sunflower Plains. It does not generate in the Nether or the End.
The whole structure is one prefabricated template, about 38 blocks by 34 by 41 in typical size. It is placed at the surface, and its terrain adaptation is set to thin beard, which blends its edges into the surrounding ground.
Layout
The farm is a single fixed build rather than a set of randomly chosen rooms. The structure is a single template with a rigid projection and no rotation, so its layout is the same in every world. The chests and the mobs are placed at fixed positions in the build. The chests are the main reason to explore it (see Loot). The mod's data does not record any puzzles or traps in the build.
Inhabitants
The structure places two kinds of mob when it generates:
- A Pumpkin Spirit (
born_in_chaos_v1:pumpkin_spirit). It has 66 maximum health, deals 13 attack damage, moves at 0.22 movement speed and has a follow range of 16 blocks. It attacks from within about 4 blocks and will retaliate when hurt. It targets hostile mobs (any monster class mob) that are nearby, so it fights off monsters that come into the farm. It is marked as persistent and does not despawn when a player goes far away. - A villager. The villager is a normal vanilla villager placed inside the farm.
In the base Born in Chaos mod, killing a villager feeds the Naughtiness score (see Naughtiness and Krampus): +10 for an adult and +15 for a baby, building toward warnings, Darkness and eventually a Krampus spawn. Fear Nightfall switches that mechanic off, so killing the farm's villager has no Naughtiness consequence in this pack.
Loot
The chests draw from the mod's farm_drop loot table. The most common entries are food and farming materials, including wheat, bread, beetroot, rabbit hide, apples and wheat seeds, with coal and leather among the less common entries. The chance of each entry is shown in the generated table below.

Tips
- The Pumpkin Spirit has 66 health and deals 13 attack damage per hit, so a player should enter the fight with full health.
- The Pumpkin Spirit attacks hostile mobs near the farm, so a crowd of monsters near the farm may be partly dealt with by it. It will also retaliate against any player that attacks it.
Obtaining
The Abandoned Farm is found by exploring the surface of the Overworld, where it generates naturally.
The mod also adds a
Spawn Structures: Farm item. Using it on a block places the farm template at the clicked position, with no rotation or mirroring, and the template's entities are placed too. The item stacks to 1 and is fire resistant. A player who uses it gets a 25-tick cooldown on the item.
Usage
The structure has no special functions of its own. Its effects are the mobs it places and the loot in its chests.
The Pumpkin Spirit is persistent, so it stays in the world after it spawns. It keeps attacking hostile mobs near the farm for as long as it is alive.
The Naughtiness mechanic that would normally punish killing the farm's villager is disabled in this pack. The pack's structure overlap guard also applies to the farm: if a larger structure from another set would overlap it, the smaller structure is skipped.
