The Bone Imp is a hostile mob added by Born in Chaos. It is a fire-immune melee undead that spawns naturally in the Nether's basalt and wastes biomes. It can also be created from a Baby Skeleton with a
Transmuting Elixir. A second form, the Bone Imp (minion), never spawns naturally and is summoned in groups by the Supreme Bonescaller. Both forms have 20 health and the same melee attack, and fire and lava do nothing to either, so fights against them are close-range melee fights.
Spawning
Bone Imps spawn naturally in two biomes, each with a spawn weight of 25 and a group size of 1 to 2:
| Biome | Mod | Weight | Group | Category | Biome share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basalt Deltas | Minecraft | 25 | 1–2 | monster | 0.00% |
| Nether Wastes | Minecraft | 25 | 1–2 | monster | 0.00% |
Natural spawning is controlled by the boneImpSpawn game rule, which is true by default. Running /gamerule boneImpSpawn false stops natural Bone Imp spawns. The rule does not affect Bone Imps created by an elixir, a spawn egg or a summon.
Bone Imps are also created in two other ways:
- Transmuting Elixir. Right-clicking a Baby Skeleton while holding a Transmuting Elixir in the main hand consumes one elixir and summons a Bone Imp at the Baby Skeleton's position.
- Spawn eggs. There is one spawn egg for each form. Both are named Bone Imp Spawn Egg in the game, and the minion's egg is
.
Bone Imp Spawn Egg (minion)
The minion is summoned by the Supreme Bonescaller and its Stage 2 form:
- The base Supreme Bonescaller summons two minions, one on each side of itself, when its health is at or below its maximum minus 5 and it is not affected by Magic Depletion.
- The Stage 2 form summons three minions when its health is below its maximum minus 5, it is not on fire and it is not affected by Magic Depletion. Each summon also gives the boss Resistance IV and Strength II for 8 seconds, and Magic Depletion for 13 seconds.
Behavior
The Bone Imp is a melee-only hostile mob. Its attack damage is 3 per hit, which is 1.5 hearts, and its attack knockback is 1.0. It has an armor value of 3.5, which reduces incoming damage. It moves at a speed of 0.31, which is faster than a walking player, and it has a follow range of 16 blocks. Its knockback resistance is 0.1, so hits push it back only slightly.
Its AI has these parts:
- Melee attack. A melee goal with a speed multiplier of 1.2 closes the distance and attacks. An attack needs line of sight to the target and a distance within the combined width of the two entities.
- Targeting. It targets the nearest player. It also retaliates against any entity that hurts it, and it alerts no other mobs when it does.
- Idle. With no target, it wanders at a speed multiplier of 0.8 and looks around at random.
The Bone Imp takes no damage from fire, from drowning or from the wither effect, and it is fire immune. It has no ranged attack. When it dies, its body is removed 20 ticks later and it gives 5 experience points. Its idle, hurt, death and step sounds are the vanilla skeleton sounds.
Drops
The Bone Imp drops Bone,
Fire Light Dust and Coal. The table below shows the counts for each.
Bone Imp
| Item | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
Bone | x1.0-1.0 | |
Fire Light Dust | x1.0-3.0 | |
Coal | x1.0-2.0 |
Bone Imp (minion)
No item drops.
Variants
Bone Imp (minion)
The minion has the same 20 health, 3 attack damage and 3.5 armor as the standard Bone Imp. It differs in these ways:
- Speed. It moves at 0.3, slightly slower than the standard Bone Imp's 0.31.
- Targets. It targets the nearest player and also targets several other mobs: Iron Golems, other golems, Controlled Baby Skeletons, Pumpkin Spirits, Dread Hounds, the non-despawning Dread Hound variant and Dire Hound Leaders.
- No retaliation. It has no retaliation goal, so being hit by a mob does not make it target that mob.
- No natural spawns. It has no natural biome spawns. It appears only from the Supreme Bonescaller's summons and its spawn egg.
| Mob | Health | Damage | Armor | Speed | Size | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bone Imp | 20.0 | 3.0 | 3.5 | 0.31 | 0.6×1.3 | Hostile |
| Bone Imp (minion) | 20.0 | 3.0 | 3.5 | 0.3 | 0.6×1.3 | Hostile |
Tips
- Fire does not work against a Bone Imp. Use melee weapons, or ranged weapons that do not rely on fire.
- The Bone Imp is faster than a walking player, so running away rarely works. Fight it in a narrow corridor, where only one can reach you at a time.
- Baby Skeletons are the simplest way to get extra Bone Imps, at the cost of one Transmuting Elixir each.
- Dread Hounds also target Bone Imps, so a hound pack will fight them as well as players.
- To keep natural Bone Imps out of a world, set
boneImpSpawntofalse. This does not affect the Bone Imps you create yourself.
