The Seasonal Events are the date-based holiday content of the Born in Chaos mod. Three events run on fixed calendar windows: Halloween, Chilling Horror and Chaotic Spring. While an event is active, zombies and skeletons that spawn receive seasonal head items and held weapons, and the event drops extra loot when they die. The mod's candy, Easter eggs and holiday items are otherwise available all year from chests and mob drops.
The events matter to players for their food and their equipment. The candies are the mod's main sweets, with short-lived effects and a few uses as crafting ingredients. The seasonal weapons and helmets make zombies and skeletons more dangerous during the event windows, and they drop items that a player can collect.
Event calendar
The events are controlled by the seasonalEvents game rule, which is on by default. Each event also has its own game rule, which is off by default and keeps that event active all year when set to true. The windows follow the server's system calendar, so the start and end dates depend on the date set on the server.
| Event | Dates | Forcing game rule |
|---|---|---|
| Halloween | Oct 25 to Nov 7 | halloweenEvent |
| Chilling Horror | Dec 21 to Jan 10 | chillingHorrorEvent |
| Chaotic Spring | Apr 10 to Apr 22 | chaoticSpringEvent |
Seasonal spawn equipment
Each event adds equipment to zombies and skeletons when they spawn. The rolls are made separately for each mob, so one mob can receive a head item, a held weapon, or both.
- Halloween: about 35% of zombies receive a Rotten Infernal Pumpkin helmet. Of those, 20% hold a Sweet Axe and the rest hold a Sweet Sword. About 25% of skeletons hold a Sweet Axe (20%) or a Sweet Sword (the rest). The pack skips mobs that already wear something in the helmet slot, which keeps the Pharaoh's head on a mob from Better Desert Temples.
- Chilling Horror: about 35% of zombies wear a Creepy Nutcracker, and a further 35% of the remainder wear a Spooky Snowman Head. About 25% of skeletons wear a Creepy Nutcracker, and a further 35% of the remainder wear a Spooky Snowman Head. Some of these mobs also hold a Nut Hammer or an Icy Sweetness.
- Chaotic Spring: about 35% of zombies wear Killer Rabbit Ears and hold a Carrot Sword. About 25% of skeletons wear the same helmet, and some of them hold a Carrot Sword on a further roll. Each mob that receives the helmet also gets the Jump II effect. The effect has an effectively unlimited duration, so it stays on the mob after the event ends.
Event equipment is applied to every zombie and skeleton that spawns in the window, not only to the mobs that the event adds. It can therefore show up on common mobs in the overworld.
Obtaining
Holiday sweets come from three places: the chests of the Clown Caravan structures, the pumpkin mobs, and the seasonal drops described below. The Clown Caravan chests in the plains, savanna and taiga biomes hold the candy and Easter eggs that are not dropped by mobs. Pumpkinhead, Senor Pumpkin, Pumpkin Dunce and Pumpkin Bruiser are the mob sources for most of the candy. Lord Pumpkinhead is the listed source of Magical Holiday Candy. Exact drop counts and chest chances are in the loot table below.
Several candies need sugar and River Mint, a flower that the mod adds to the world. The Eternal Candy is the only candy made from other candies, and it needs a set of five candies and a Transmuting Elixir.

Seasonal drops are added on top of the normal drop table. Each seasonal drop applies only while its event is active, and only when the killed zombie or skeleton is wearing the event's helmet or holding its weapon.
- Halloween: a zombie or skeleton that wears a Rotten Infernal Pumpkin or holds a Sweet Sword or Sweet Axe has a 50% chance to drop one or two sweets. The sweets are drawn at random from the mod's sweets tag.
- Chilling Horror: a zombie or skeleton that wears a Spooky Snowman Head or a Creepy Nutcracker, or holds a Nut Hammer or an Icy Sweetness, has a 50% chance to drop a Creepy Gift.
- Chaotic Spring: a zombie or skeleton that wears Killer Rabbit Ears or holds a Carrot Sword has a 50% chance to drop one of the mod's Easter eggs. A second roll at 10% is made only when the first fails, so about 5% of qualifying kills drop a Transmuting Easter Cake.
Rabbits also drop Easter eggs at a small chance.
Usage
Most candies are food with a short effect that is listed in the item tooltip. Caramel Pepper gives Fire Resistance for 15 seconds, Coffee Candy gives Speed II for 15 seconds, and Gummy Vampire Teeth give Vampiric Touch for 15 seconds, which heals the player when they hit a mob. Chocolate Heart restores 2 health. Mint Candy removes the rotten stink and hunger effects when eaten. Mint Ice Cream extinguishes the player when eaten, which is useful when fighting in fire.
Eternal Candy does not stack, and it grants a random set of effects when eaten. Its tooltip says that the player can eat as many as they want. Magical Holiday Candy is fire resistant and gives 20 saturation. The Transmuting Easter Cake gives 6 food and 12 saturation. Its tooltip lists Stone Persistence, Predator's Desire and Rabbit Agility, each for 10 to 30 minutes, with one of them selected at random.
Rotten Easter Eggs are thrown rather than eaten. When one lands, it randomly buffs every monster in the area of impact, and those monsters give more experience when killed. Bag of Candy and Creepy Gift are containers that open when right-clicked, and each one holds event loot.
The naughtiness score and Krampus mechanics that some of these items refer to are switched off on this server. Creepy Cookies With Milk and Spiritual Gingerbread still work, but their effects on the naughtiness score do nothing. See Naughtiness and Krampus for the mechanic itself.

Tips
- Check the server date before planning an event hunt. Halloween starts on October 25 and ends on November 7. Outside those dates the Halloween equipment does not appear on mobs.
- Pumpkinhead has the largest listed Holiday Candy drop, so it is the best source of that candy.
- Keep Mint Ice Cream in the inventory when fighting in areas with fire, since it extinguishes the player.
