The Pumpkinhead is a hostile mob added by Born in Chaos. It has 65 health, fires pumpkin projectiles at players from range, is immune to fire and explosions, and relocates itself when it takes damage. Its death drops a fixed set of weapons, consumables and candy, so it is worth fighting for those items as well as its experience.
Spawning
The Pumpkinhead has no natural biome spawn entries, and the mod does not place it in any structure. Its spawn egg is the only item that creates one, and the egg stacks to 64. The table below lists the spawn data.
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
Behavior
The Pumpkinhead is a monster with 65 health, 3 attack damage, 4 armor, a movement speed of 0.33 and a follow range of 36 blocks. It has 0.6 knockback resistance and drops 360 experience points on death.
Targeting. It attacks players and any mob that damages it. It also targets iron golems, Pumpkin Spirits, controlled Mr. Pumpkin variants and controlled baby skeletons. When idle it strolls, looks around and floats in water.
Ranged attack. When it has a target within 10 blocks and has had line of sight to it for at least 5 ticks, it fires a pumpkin projectile at that target every 25 ticks (1.25 seconds). Each projectile deals 2 base damage. The projectile is launched with a spread of 12, so shots at long range are inaccurate.
Relocation when hurt. Each time the Pumpkinhead takes damage while its health is at least 30, there is a 90% chance that it tries to move 8 blocks away. A destination to the east, west or south is chosen with a 30% chance each, if that block is not solid. If none of those is chosen, it moves 8 blocks north. The relocation happens before the damage is applied, so the hit still lands. Below 30 health this relocation does not happen.
Immunities. The Pumpkinhead is immune to fire damage, explosions, falling, cactus, drowning and lightning. It ignores explosion knockback. Any damage from these sources is cancelled.
Terrain interaction. While it stands on water, lava, kelp or seagrass, the block beneath it is converted to a destructible variant of Fel Soil. If it is inside a wall or in lava, it has a 50% chance each tick to teleport 3 blocks away.
Death. When it dies, it plays the wither death sound and a fire particle effect, and it ends any rain or thunderstorm in the world. Its body remains for 20 ticks before it is removed, and the experience is dropped at that point.
Drops
The loot table gives one each of the Soul Saber, Pumpkin Staff, a music disc, a Fel Lamp and a Bag of Candy. It also gives 16 to 32 Holiday Candy and 6 to 20 Smoldering Infernal Ember. The exact counts are in the drops table above.

Holiday Candy | x16.0-32.0
Music Disc | x1.0-1.0 | |
Fel Lamp | x1.0-1.0 | |
Pumpkin Staff | x1.0-1.0
Bag of Candy | x1.0-1.0 | |
Smoldering Infernal Ember | x6.0-20.0 |
Tips
Fight the Pumpkinhead at range or with a shield. It only fires while it can see its target within 10 blocks. Keep an eye on its health: once it drops below 30 it stops relocating, so it stays in place after each hit. Explosives and fire do nothing to it, so use melee weapons, arrows or magic. Its death drops are guaranteed, so a single kill supplies the full loot set.
