The Elixirs, Decoctions and Bombs are a group of consumables, thrown weapons and hazard blocks added by Born in Chaos. The group contains two drinkable decoctions, five elixirs, three bomb projectiles, two puddle blocks and the Transmuting Elixir, which turns certain mobs and blocks into other things. The decoctions and elixirs are drunk for timed status effects. The bombs are fired from the hand like bows and detonate on impact.
Most of these items come from Born in Chaos's own content. The decoctions drop from Zombie Clowns and appear in clown caravan chests. In Fear Nightfall, Born in Chaos's spawn entries are restricted to the Overworld, so its mobs and the items they carry are not found in the Nether or the End.
Obtaining
Crafting
The three bombs and the Transmuting Elixir are crafted. Neither decoction has a crafting recipe. The Phantom Bomb recipe yields two bombs, and the Transmuting Elixir needs nine different ingredients, including an Intoxicating Decoction. The grids for each recipe are shown below.
The five elixirs are brewed on a brewing stand. Each one needs a Chaos Component together with one other ingredient:
- Elixir of Vampirism: Lifestealer Bone
- Elixir of Wither Resistance: Nightmare Claw
- Elixir of Insect Protection: Bloody Gadfly Eye
- Elixir of Ice Barrier: Permafrost Shard
- Elixir of Rampage: Fang of the Hound Leader
The two decoctions also work as brewing ingredients. Placing an Intoxicating Decoction or a Stimulating Decoction with an Awkward Potion produces an Intoxication potion or a Stimulating potion, respectively.
Loot and drops
Both decoctions drop from the Zombie Clown and from its persistent variant, at 1 to 2 items per kill. Clown caravan structures in plains, savanna and taiga biomes hold the decoctions and the Transmuting Elixir in their chests. Horror structures in Fear Nightfall, including Born in Chaos's, are placed about 30% closer together than in the base mod, so the caravans are easier to find. Drop and chest chances are listed in the table below.
| Item | Chest loot table | Structures | Chance per chest | Avg. stack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Intoxicating Decoction | minecraft:chests/shater | Clown Caravan Plains, Clown Caravan Savanna, Clown Caravan Taiga | 30.7% | 1.7 |
Transmuting Elixir | minecraft:chests/shater | Clown Caravan Plains, Clown Caravan Savanna, Clown Caravan Taiga | 0.7% | 1.0 |
| Item | Dropped by | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
Intoxicating Decoction | Zombie Clown | x1.0-2.0 | |
Intoxicating Decoction | Zombie Clown (persistent) | x1.0-2.0 | |
Stimulating Decoction | Zombie Clown | x1.0-2.0 | |
Stimulating Decoction | Zombie Clown (persistent) | x1.0-2.0 |
Usage
Decoctions
Intoxicating Decoction is a drink. Drinking it applies Intoxication at level I for 5 seconds. When Intoxication begins, the target receives Blindness I for 1.5 seconds, Poison II for 3 seconds and Nausea V for as long as the Intoxication lasts. Intoxication itself deals no damage over time. Its per-tick effect only produces particles.
Stimulating Decoction is also a drink, and it applies Stimulation for 10 seconds. When Stimulation is applied, it removes the Slowness effect from the target.
Bombs
The Intoxicating Bomb and Stimulating Bomb are fired like bows, with the matching bomb in the inventory used as ammunition. Both have a 25-tick (1.25 second) cooldown after each shot.
- Intoxicating Bomb: On impact, it explodes with power 1.0 and does not damage blocks. Every living entity within 4 blocks receives Intoxication I for 40 seconds. A non-player entity that is struck directly receives Intoxication II for 20 seconds instead. When the bomb lands on a block, it also creates Puddles of intoxication in the air spaces next to the impact.
- Stimulating Bomb: A direct hit gives the target Stimulation II for 30 seconds. Every living entity within 4.5 blocks receives Stimulation I for 2 minutes. Landing on a block plays a glass-break sound and affects living entities within 4.5 blocks.
- Phantom Bomb: This bomb is drawn and released like a bow, and each shot uses one Phantom Bomb from the inventory. When it hits a block or an entity, it explodes with power 4.0, which damages blocks, and it spawns a Phantom Bomb entity at the impact point. That entity has 15 health and does not chase targets. At spawn it receives Damage Resistance V and a Block Break effect for 50 ticks. About 2 seconds later, when the Block Break effect runs down to 10 ticks, the entity explodes with power 4.0 and disappears. It ignores player melee attacks, arrows, explosions, fire, falls and wither damage.
Puddles
Puddle of intoxication is a hazard block placed by Intoxicating Bomb landings. Each puddle lasts about 20 seconds (400 ticks), counting down once per tick, and it disappears early if no solid block is beneath it. A living entity that moves into a puddle receives Intoxication II for 5 seconds, but only if it is not already intoxicated.
Puddle of stimulation applies Stimulation II for 45 seconds (900 ticks) to any living entity that touches it. The block is defined in the mod, but no code in the source places it in the world, so it is not obtained through normal play. Both puddles have zero hardness and burn when fire touches them.
Elixirs
The elixirs last for the durations below. Each one is stackable up to 16 in a stack.
- Elixir of Ice Barrier grants Ice Barrier for 6:00. Attackers that hit the holder are given Bone Chilling.
- Elixir of Insect Protection grants Insect Protection for 12:00. Each time it triggers, the attacker takes 6 damage.
- Elixir of Wither Resistance grants Wither Resistance for 8:00. The Dark Metal armour set also grants wither resistance.
- Elixir of Vampirism grants Vampiric Touch for 6:00. Vampiric Touch heals attackers.
- Elixir of Rampage removes Mining Fatigue, Weakness and Slowness when it is drunk, then applies one of the five tiers of the Rampage effect for 1:50. Rampage effects stack, and the tier is raised by consecutive kills with the Great Reaper Axe.
Transmuting Elixir
The Transmuting Elixir is an Epic-rarity item that is fire resistant. To use it, hold it in the main hand and right-click the target. Each use consumes one elixir. Mobs transform into the following:
- Baby Skeleton into Bone Imp
- Corpse Fly into Bloody Gadfly
- Pig into Hoglin
- Creeper into Phantom Creeper
- Zombie into Zombie Bruiser
- Decrepit Skeleton into Skeleton Thrasher
Other mobs turn into Infernal Spirit, Dire Hound Leader and Corpse Fish. Dread Hounds and Seared Spirits are not converted. Right-clicking an Infernal Evil Pumpkin, from Evil Pumpkins and Fel Lamps, removes the pumpkin and summons a Lord Pumpkinhead in its place. Right-clicking a Magma Block turns it into Fel Soil, which is covered in Fel Soil and Rotten Soil.
