Fel Soil and Rotten Soil are two ground blocks added by Born in Chaos. Fel Soil is a glowing, infernal block that burns any mob or player that walks on it, and a destructible variant of it is placed by some Felsteed and Pumpkinhead entities. Rotten Soil is a dirt-like block that can release a Corpse Maggot, Rotten Flesh or Bone when a player in Survival mode breaks it.
Obtaining
Fel Soil and Rotten Soil are both in the mod's creative tab and can be crafted. Neither is placed by any structure or biome feature in the mod's data, so they are not found naturally in the world.
Crafting
Fel Soil is crafted from four
Smoldering Infernal Embers in a 2×2 grid. Rotten Soil is a shapeless recipe that uses one piece of dirt, one Corpse Maggot and one Rotten Flesh.
Destructible Fel Soil
The variant fel_soil_destructible is not in the creative tab and cannot be crafted. It is set into the ground by certain Felsteed and Pumpkinhead-family mobs. When one of these mobs stands above water, lava, kelp or seagrass, the block below it is replaced with Destructible Fel Soil.
Breaking blocks
Fel Soil and Destructible Fel Soil have a hardness of 0.6 and require a pickaxe of at least stone tier. Fel Soil drops four Smoldering Infernal Embers, reduced by explosions as normal. Destructible Fel Soil drops nothing.
Rotten Soil has a hardness of 0.6 and is mined with a shovel. It drops one dirt block when broken.
Usage
Fel Soil
Fel Soil is a fire-like hazard. Each time a mob or player steps on it, the block deals 1.0 damage (half a heart) using the hot floor damage type. The damage is skipped if the entity is sneaking or immune to fire. Fel Soil emits light at level 3 and blocks skylight and block light completely, so a patch of it is darker than the surrounding area. It also slows movement across its surface to 90% of normal speed.
Destructible Fel Soil
Destructible Fel Soil uses the same stats and the same damage on each step as Fel Soil. It also has a timer. Placing the block starts a countdown of 200 ticks (10 seconds), which decreases by one each game tick. When the countdown reaches zero, the block is destroyed without drops. This makes Destructible Fel Soil a temporary trap, not a permanent surface.
Rotten Soil
Rotten Soil has a blast resistance of 0.5, so explosions destroy it easily. It blocks light in the same way as Fel Soil.
Only a player in Survival mode triggers its special effect, and only when the player breaks it directly. Creative mode players and explosions do not trigger the effect. Each break rolls the following checks in order, and only the first success applies:
| Check | Chance | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 25% | A Corpse Maggot spawns at the block's position |
| 2 | 18.75% | One Rotten Flesh drops, with a pickup delay of 10 ticks |
| 3 | 14.06% | One Bone drops, with a pickup delay of 10 ticks |
A break that spawns a Corpse Maggot does not roll for Rotten Flesh or Bone. The chance of no extra item is 42.19%. The block itself always drops one dirt block.
