The Infernal Spirit is a hostile mob added by Born in Chaos. It is a fire-immune melee monster with 90 health (45 hearts) and 16 attack damage, and it is far tougher than the Seared Spirit it is made from. Each of its hits sets the target on fire with the Infernal Flame effect, which deals damage repeatedly for as long as the target stays above 15 hearts. It does not occur naturally in the world, so players who want one must convert a Seared Spirit with a Transmuting Elixir, or spawn one with its spawn egg.
Spawning
It has no natural spawn entries and does not appear in any biome or structure spawn list. Spawning is handled in two ways:
- Transmuting Elixir: using a
Transmuting Elixir on a Seared Spirit discards the Seared Spirit, consumes one of the elixir from the main hand, and summons an Infernal Spirit at the Seared Spirit's position with the same facing. The summon is a single mob with the MOB_SUMMONEDspawn type, so no group is created. Completing the conversion awards the Infernal Medicine advancement. The elixir recipe itself is described on Elixirs, Decoctions and Bombs. - Spawn egg: the
Infernal Spirit Spawn Egg places one Infernal Spirit, and the egg stacks to 64.
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
Behavior
The Infernal Spirit is a Monster-category mob with an Animal base class. It cannot be bred, because its food check accepts no items. It is persistent: the spirit never despawns, and it is not removed when a player moves away from it. It is 0.8 blocks wide and 3 blocks tall, with a movement speed of 0.22, a follow range of 19 blocks, armor 12 and a knockback resistance of 0.9. Its attack knockback is 2.3, so it is hard to push back. It drops 12 experience points.
Its AI has the following goals, in priority order:
- Melee attack at speed 1.1. It attacks when the target is within about 1.6 blocks (squared distance below 2.56) and in line of sight.
- Random stroll at speed 0.8 that avoids water.
- Retaliation: when it is hurt, it targets the attacker.
- Random look-around and floating in water.
- Targeting: it targets nearby
Monsterentities, so it also fights other hostile mobs. It does not seek out players this way. A player is targeted only after the player attacks it.
Damage and immunities. The Infernal Spirit takes no damage from fire, cactus, drowning or lightning, and it is immune to fire. Every other source of damage applies normally.
Infernal Flame. Each time the Infernal Spirit deals damage to a player, a Mob or a Monster that is not blocking, the target receives Infernal Flame at level I for 240 ticks (12 seconds). While the effect is active, the target's internal counter ticks down once per tick. When the counter reaches zero, a pulse of fire damage is dealt. Each pulse does 5 damage, and a pulse happens once every 41 ticks, which is about 2 seconds. A 12-second effect therefore produces about five or six pulses. A pulse is applied only when all of the following are true:
- the target's health is at least 30 (15 hearts);
- the target does not have Fire Resistance.
A pulse does not hurt a target whose health has fallen below 30 or who is fire resistant. Infernal Flame is not applied while the target is blocking with a shield.
Drops
The Infernal Spirit has three loot pools, each with one roll and a single entry, so all three drops are guaranteed:
- one Ethereal Spirit;
- one Infernal Evil Pumpkin;
- three to six Smoldering Infernal Embers.
See the table below for the item details.
| Item | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
Ethereal Spirit | x1.0-1.0 | |
Infernal Evil Pumpkin | x1.0-1.0 | |
Smoldering Infernal Ember | x3.0-6.0 |
Tips
- Stay out of range of its hits when you do not have a shield or Fire Resistance. Each hit applies Infernal Flame, which keeps dealing damage for 12 seconds.
- Use a shield. Blocking stops the Infernal Flame from being applied to you, so a raised shield is the simplest defence.
- Drink Fire Resistance before the fight. While you have that effect, the flame's damage pulses do nothing.
- Know the health threshold. Infernal Flame deals no pulses to a target with less than 15 hearts, so the effect does nothing to a target that is already low.
- Expect a long fight. With 90 health, 12 armor and a knockback resistance of 0.9, the Infernal Spirit takes many hits to kill and is hard to knock back. Fire and lava are useless against it.
- Convert a Seared Spirit only when you are ready. The Infernal Spirit spawns right where the Seared Spirit stood, and it does not despawn.
