The Clown Caravan is a surface structure added by Born in Chaos. It is a fenced camp of wagons, barrels, brewing stands and candles, and it is inhabited by Zombie Clowns, pandas and zombie horses. It generates in three variants, one each for plains, savanna and taiga biomes. Each variant is a single jigsaw structure with a typical size of 56 by 35 by 55 blocks. The caravan is one of the mod's horror structures, and its residents are most dangerous at night.

A placeable item, the Spawn Structures: Clown Caravan, puts a whole caravan at the block a player right-clicks.

Generation

The caravan generates in the Overworld as a surface structure, with the terrain adapted to the surrounding ground (the terrain adaptation mode is beard_thin, so the structure blends into uneven ground). The three variants use separate structure sets and are each restricted to a biome group:

  • Plains variant: spawns in plains-type biomes such as Plains, Flower Fields and Pasture. Its placement spacing is about 84 chunks, and it was observed at 2 per 26 km².
  • Savanna variant: spawns in biomes tagged as savanna, such as Savanna, Savanna Plateau and Baobab Savanna. Its placement spacing is about 63 chunks, and it was observed at 1 per 26 km².
  • Taiga variant: spawns in biomes tagged as taiga, including Taiga, Snowy Taiga and Old Growth Pine Taiga. Its placement spacing is about 56 chunks, and it was observed at 3 per 26 km², the most common of the three.

The placement spacing values are the effective values after the pack's sparse-factor reduction (base spacing multiplied by 0.707). The full biome lists are in the structure table below.

All three variants use the same template. Because the plains, savanna and taiga biome sets overlap with common vanilla biomes, a caravan can sit near villages, outposts and other structure mods' sites.

Layout

The caravan is a single template of about 56 by 35 by 55 blocks, built on the ground surface. Its palette is weighted toward decorative and utility blocks. The notable blocks in the template are:

  • Storage and brewing: barrels, brewing stands, and several chests that use the minecraft:chests/shater loot table.
  • Light and atmosphere: campfires, a bell, hanging chains, black and red candles, and red wall banners.
  • Dead and rotten decor: hay bales, composters, cobwebs, carved skulls, gnawed bones and Fused Bone, on a base of rooted dirt, podzol and tall grass.
  • Structure: mangrove and spruce wood, scorched planks fences, stairs and slabs, and iron bars and black argillite brick walls.

Inhabitants

The caravan places three kinds of mob when it generates:

  • Zombie Clown (persistent variant): the zombie_clown_not_despawn form. It is set to require persistence, so it does not despawn when no player is nearby. It is the main hazard of the caravan.
  • Panda: a vanilla panda placed as decoration.
  • Zombie horse: a vanilla zombie horse placed as decoration.

Zombie Clowns also spawn naturally in the Overworld. The biome modifier adds them to all biomes with a spawn weight of 8 and a group size of 1. A natural spawn needs the zombieClownSpawn gamerule (on by default) and a dark spot. The light level must be at most 4 with open sky above, or at most 0 without it. Zombie Clowns do not spawn in deep dark or mushroom fields biomes.

A Zombie Clown has 35 maximum health, 4 armour, 3 attack damage and a movement speed of 0.21. It is an undead mob with a follow range of 25 blocks.

  • Attack: each hit applies Intoxication to the target for 11 seconds. Players who are blocking with a shield are not affected, and a target that already has Intoxication is not given a new one.
  • Hurt: once it has lost 10 or more health, the clown gains Stimulating Surge for one second, unless it already has Stimulation.
  • Death: the clown's death animation lasts one second. When maggotsAppearance is on (the default), there is a 25% chance that three Maggots appear around it at the end of the animation.

Killing a Zombie Clown as a player grants the advancement Life turned out to be a comedy.

Loot

The caravan's chests use the minecraft:chests/shater loot table. The chance of each item in the table below is the chance that the item appears in a chest roll, so a chest may contain several of them or none.

The most valuable loot is the Smoked Flesh (34%), the Intoxicating Decoction (31%) and the Copper Ingot (24%). The Intoxicating Decoction belongs to the Elixirs, Decoctions and Bombs line. The rest of the table is food and crafting material, including Glow Berries, Cultivated Pumpkin, Mint Candy and Holiday Candy.

Tips

Natural Zombie Clown spawns need low light, so the area around the caravan is safest in daylight. Deal with the persistent clown before you open the chests, since its hits apply Intoxication for 11 seconds.

Carry a shield if you plan to fight the clowns in melee. A blocking player is immune to Intoxication, which removes the clowns' main effect.

If you want a caravan near your base, use the Spawn Structures: Clown Caravan item. Right-click the block where you want the structure's origin, then wait for the 1.25 second cooldown before you use it again.

Obtaining

Clown Caravans generate naturally in plains, savanna and taiga biomes. The Spawn Structures: Clown Caravan item Spawn Structures: Clown Caravan is listed in the Born in Chaos creative tab. The mod's data gives it no crafting recipe and no loot table entry, so it is only available from the creative inventory or through commands.

Usage

The Spawn Structures: Clown Caravan item places one caravan when it is used on a block. The caravan is placed with its origin at the clicked block, and no terrain check is made, so the structure can overwrite blocks around that position.

The item does not stack, is fire resistant and has the common rarity. A player who uses it has a 25-tick cooldown, which is 1.25 seconds.
