The Pine Taiga is a cool, forested overworld biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is covered in pine trees and grows on a ground layer of peat and grass. The biome has two closely related variants: Frozen Pine Taiga, a snowy version with its own tree and mob table, and Pine Slopes, a mountain biome with a dense pine canopy. Both are described below as subsections.
Pine Taiga has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.4, so it rains rather than snows. The grass is tinted olive (#84a75a) and the foliage is darker olive (#758646). Pine trees are the defining feature, mixed with fallen pine logs and pine shrubs. The background music is the old-growth taiga track.
Frozen Pine Taiga
Frozen Pine Taiga is the cold version of the biome. Its temperature is -0.5 and it snows instead of rains. Its grass is a cooler green (#68ad64) and its foliage is #689858. The ground is covered with snow blocks above water and patches of powder snow, and the background music is the Grove track.
Pine Slopes
Pine Slopes is a mountain biome that replaces the vanilla Grove at a weight of 50 wherever the temperature is above -0.45. Its surface is coarse dirt, and its trees are placed with a pine tree group. Pine Slopes has the pack's emerald ore and goats.
Generation
Pine Taiga belongs to the pine and redwood taiga group, which splits vanilla taiga-type biomes into named groups. Pine Taiga, Frozen Pine Taiga, Redwoods and Sparse Redwoods all share the same vanilla source, and the group as a whole has a weight of 75. Each member is enabled only where its climate range matches, so Frozen Pine Taiga takes the colder end of the range and Pine Taiga the warmer end. Pine Slopes is a direct replacement for the vanilla Grove, as described above.
Pine Taiga is not one of the biomes given the 6× horror weight. The pack's horror weighting does concentrate in temperate-to-cool, humid forests, taigas and swamps, however, and Pine Taiga falls into that group. Horror structures are also placed about 30% closer together across the pack. The biome's share of the land is shown in the infobox above.
Features
Trees: Pine Taiga's primary tree group makes 16 placement attempts per chunk. The trees are chosen by weight from standard pines (12), skinny pines (3), tall pines (4) and skinny tall pines (1). A secondary group places pine shrubs on grass. Fallen pines on dirt also appear. The wood is the Regions Unexplored pine set.
Vanilla pine replacement: The pack's taiga_pine_trees setting replaces the vanilla pine and mega pine trees in taiga biomes with the Regions Unexplored pine trunk and foliage.
Plants: Patches of fern, short grass, large fern, sugar cane, pumpkins and berry bushes appear, along with azure daisies, wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries. Vanilla taigas gain purple coneflowers.
Ground: Pine Taiga uses peat as its ground layer. Wolves and snow layers can exist on peat, sheep grazing turns peat grass into dirt, and trees rooted on peat get peat dirt beneath their trunks.
Frozen Pine Taiga: Trees are placed with a snowy tree group of 10 attempts per chunk. The selection is weighted towards pine trees (7 and 2) and pine shrubs (1).
Pine Slopes: Uses a pine tree group with 11 placement attempts per chunk and a coarse dirt surface.
Ores: The standard vanilla ore set is generated, along with the pack's infected diamond ores (from Born in Chaos), sulfur ore (from Butchery) and mithril ore (from Iron's Spells).
Frozen Pine Taiga's monster table has strays (80) and revenants (25) but no regular skeletons. Its passive mobs are rabbits, wolves and Shima Enaga. Pine Slopes has skeletons, goats (5) and the same horror mobs as Pine Taiga.
