The Outback is a hot, dry desert biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a desert variant placed alongside Joshua Desert and Saguaro Desert. It has no precipitation and is rare in Fear Nightfall, covering about 0.21% of the surface land, so most players will reach it only by exploring. Unlike the vanilla desert, it has its own trees, Socotra trees, and its own shrubs.
Description
The Outback is a sand desert with scattered patches of grass on sand. Its ground is sand, and it has the vanilla desert plants (dead bushes, cacti and sugar cane) along with the biome's own plants.
The biome uses custom colours. Grass is tinted #b8ba55, a dry olive-yellow, and foliage is tinted #85ac56, a muted green. The sky is #6eb1ff and the fog is the standard overworld fog colour. Water is the normal overworld blue.
Its trees are Socotra trees, and its shrubs are acacia-type shrubs. The biome also has short grass, steppe grass, desert shrubs on sand and a mallow flower patch. Mallow's suspicious stew gives Mining Fatigue for 4 seconds (see Flower Effects and Suspicious Stew).
Generation
Regions Unexplored places the Outback as a toggled addition to the vanilla desert. It replaces the vanilla desert only where erosion is below 0.15. Its climate is hot (temperature 2) and dry (downfall 0), with no precipitation. Snow golems melt in the biome.
The pack's biome table gives the Outback a share of 0.21% of the surface land and 0.13% of the cave layer at y = -30. The other two desert-type Regions Unexplored biomes, Joshua Desert and Saguaro Desert, are each weighted at 50 by default. The Outback is not in the pack's list of 6x horror-weighted biomes.
Features
- Trees: Socotra trees, placed in a tree group with acacia-type shrubs.
- Shrubs: acacia-type shrubs in a shrub group.
- Plants: mallow patches, short grass, steppe grass, and desert shrubs on sand.
- Cacti: the biome uses the denser cactus setting of the desert base generation, so cacti are more common than in an ordinary desert.
- Ores: the standard overworld ore set, plus pack ore features from other mods in the placed-feature list, such as the infected diamond ore, sulfur ore and mithril ore.
- Villagers: villagers in the Outback use the savanna villager type.
Mobs and structures
The Outback has a large monster spawn list. Spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies have the highest weights. The table below also lists many horror mobs from other pack mods, including Dread Hound and Krampus. Hostile mobs spawn in darkness as in any other biome.
The passive spawn list includes sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, armadillos, terracotta golems, wolves, horses and donkeys. The biome adds wolves in packs of four to eight and raises the creature spawn probability to 0.04. Water mobs and cave mobs are listed in the table.
More than 200 structures can generate in the Outback, including desert, badlands and savanna-style structures from several mods. Use the table below to see which ones can appear here.

Tips
- The Outback is open and flat, with little cover. Bring light and a shelter before dark, because hostile mobs spawn here at night.
- Mallow stew gives Mining Fatigue, which is a poor choice before a fight.
