The Silver Birch Forest is an overworld biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a temperate, rainy forest of birch trees and leaf litter, with a large and varied mob list. It is a replacement biome: it takes part of the vanilla Old Growth Birch Forest source in the Fear Nightfall biome table, so it appears in the same climate band as old growth birch forests. It is uncommon in the pack, but it is one of the forests where a player will meet a wide range of horror mobs.
Description
The Silver Birch Forest has a temperature of 0.5 and a downfall of 0.6. It rains rather than snows, so the biome has no snow cover. The grass is tinted a yellow-green (#B0C73A) and the foliage a darker green (#88BB42). Water is a clear blue (#3F76E4). The fog is a pale blue (#C0D8FF) and the sky a light blue (#7BA4FF).
The trees are the Silver Birch wood set. They are aspen-shaped birches, and they come in two heights: a standard tree with a trunk of 4 blocks and a taller tree with a trunk of 5 blocks, placed at a 3 to 1 ratio. Leaf litter lies on the ground around the trunks, and fallen silver birch logs lie across the floor.
The biome's ground cover is a set of low plants: sparse short grass, sparse tassel, orange coneflower patches, and silver birch shrubs placed in the same way as the shrubs of other Regions Unexplored forests. Silver birch logs strip into vanilla stripped birch logs with an axe, not into a Regions Unexplored stripped log.
Generation
The biome replaces part of the vanilla Old Growth Birch Forest source at the default weight of 50. In Fear Nightfall it covers about 0.30% of the land surface, so it is uncommon. Caves in the biome are also sparse, at about 0.08% of the cave layer at Y=-30.
Fear Nightfall does not weight the Silver Birch Forest as a horror biome. It is not among the biomes given 6× weight in the pack's horror biome table. Its horror content comes from the structures that generate inside it, which are described below.
Features
- Trees: silver birch trees in standard and tall forms, with leaf litter on the ground beneath them.
- Fallen logs: fallen silver birch logs lie on the ground.
- Shrubs: silver birch shrubs, one of the shrub groups for this biome.
- Plants: sparse short grass, sparse tassel and orange coneflower patches.
- Ores: the biome uses the standard vanilla ore set for coal, iron, gold, redstone, diamond, lapis, copper and andesite, diorite, granite and tuff clusters. Several Fear Nightfall mods add their own ore placements here, including infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos, mithril ore and a deepslate sulfur ore from Butchery.
- Pack additions: cave urns and wild flax from Supplementaries, silk cocoons from Critters and Companions, wild carrot and wild onion patches from Farmer's Delight, and a cliff feature from the stonycliffs mod.
Mobs and structures
The Silver Birch Forest has one of the longest mob lists of the Regions Unexplored forests. The most common hostiles are spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, each at the top weight. The rarer horror mobs include the Revenant, the Slime Golem, the Necromancer, the Dread Hound, the Spirit of Chaos, the Nightmare Stalker, the Lifestealer, the Supreme Bonescaller and Krampus. The Revenant and Slime Golem are the most frequent of these, at a weight of 25 each. The Dread Hound has a weight of 7, and the Krampus, Lifestealer and Supreme Bonescaller have a weight of 1 each, so these are rare encounters.
Passive mobs include the Crow (the most common passive mob), sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, honey golems, wolves and ferrets. The ambient mobs are mainly insects and small creatures, including leaf insects, roly polies, snails, stag beetles and stick bugs. The water hosts a range of fish, and the underground waters have glow squids. The water creatures include the Corpse Fish and the Glutton Fish.
The biome has 174 structures that can generate in it. Many are horror structures from the pack, including the Catacombs, the Firewell and the Evoker Fort, as well as dead trees and the graveyard sites. The pack places horror structures about 30% closer together than the mods do by default, so the biome has a higher chance of containing a horror site than most biomes of its size. Villages, outposts and campsites from the merged village sets also appear here.
The mob and structure tables are generated below.

Tips
- The Silver Birch Forest is dangerous after dark. Its hostile mob list is long, and the spawn weights are high for spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies. Carry a light source and weapons before travelling through it at night.
- Wolves spawn here among the passive mobs, so a player who wants a wolf companion can find one in the biome.
- Silver birch logs strip into vanilla stripped birch logs with an axe, so the wood can be processed without any Regions Unexplored tool.
