Towering Cliffs is an overworld mountain biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a highland of bare stone and pine-covered slopes. Its exposed stone faces and the standard ore veins inside them make it a practical place to mine, and its wide mix of hostile mobs from the pack makes it dangerous after dark.
Description
Towering Cliffs has the stone-heavy terrain of a mountain biome. Where the terrain is high, the surface is stone, with cobblestone and gravel mixed into exposed patches. Lower ground is covered in grass blocks and coarse dirt, with cobblestone showing through in places. The layer below the surface is stone wherever the terrain noise is high, so cliff faces show stone several blocks deep.
Grass is tinted a muted olive green (#7e9052), and foliage is a slightly brighter olive (#8fa960). The sky is pale blue (#79a6ff) and the fog is a light blue (#c0d8ff). Water is a deep blue (#3f76e4). The ambient mood sound is the cave sound, and the background music is the Stony Peaks track from vanilla Minecraft.
Plant cover is sparse. Pine trees from Regions Unexplored's pine wood set grow in small groups, and fallen pine logs lie between them. Some of the pines are dead. Pine shrubs, fern and hyssop patches, and glow lichen cover the ground.
Generation
Towering Cliffs is a weighted replacement for the vanilla Windswept Savanna biome, with a default weight of 100. It is placed only where the climate matches its range: a temperature of 0.75, a downfall of 0.8, and rain as its precipitation. In a typical world it covers about 0.05% of the land surface and about 0.02% of the cave layer at y = -30.
The biome is not one of the horror biomes that Fear Nightfall weights at six times the standard value, so it is a regular mountain biome in the pack. Its mobs still include the pack's horror creatures, because those mobs spawn in every overworld biome that allows them.
Structures that can generate here include campsites, castles, towers, cathedrals, pillager outposts and dead trees, among others from several structure mods.
Features
- Ores: the standard overworld ore veins, including coal, copper, iron, gold, lapis, redstone, diamond and emerald, plus vanilla dirt, gravel, granite, diorite, andesite and tuff veins. Infested stone veins are also placed.
- Pack ores and blocks: infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos, black argillite, Mithril ore, and sulfur ore from Butchery.
- Water and lava: surface and underground lava lakes, and spring water and spring lava.
- Trees: pine groups and fallen pine logs.
- Plants: pumpkin and sugar cane patches, glow lichen and small mushrooms from vanilla; pine shrubs, fern and hyssop patches from Regions Unexplored; wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries; wild carrots and wild onions from Farmer's Delight.
Mobs and structures
Passive mobs are limited to goats, which spawn in groups of one to three with a weight of 5. Sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, llamas, goats and rabbits are the other passive spawns in the table. Bats are the ambient mob. Glow squid spawn in underground water, and several fish from the pack spawn in surface water.
The hostile mobs are the main concern. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes each have a spawn weight of 100, and zombies have 95, so these are the most frequent encounters. The pack's horror creatures spawn at lower weights. Examples are the Ghoul, the Necromancer, the Dread Hound and the Krampus, which has one of the lowest weights. Several other horror mobs from the pack are in the table with weights of 1 to 10.

Tips
- Many of the hostile mobs spawn in darkness. Light the open ground and the ledges where you camp or mine.
- Mine the exposed stone faces during the day, when fewer hostile mobs are out.
- Infested stone veins can hide silverfish, so expect a fight when you break them.
- Goats are the only passive mobs that spawn in groups, which makes them the most reliable source of meat in the biome.
- Pine groups provide the wood for this biome. Dead pines are less common than living ones.
- Check the weights in the mob table before travelling at night.
