Mithril is a rare metal added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. It is mined as ore in the overworld underground, refined through a short chain of smelting and crafting steps, and used as a crafting material for mid-tier spellcasting armor, weapons and jewelry. Mithril ore is the only source of the metal, so a player who wants Mithril gear has to mine at depth with a netherite-tier pickaxe first.
Obtaining
Mithril ore generates in the overworld in the underground ore step. Each chunk receives 7 placement attempts, between Y -63 and Y -38, in veins of up to 3 blocks in stone and deepslate. The ore comes in two variants, Mithril Ore in stone and Deepslate Mithril Ore in deepslate. Both have a hardness of 20, a blast resistance of 1200, and emit light level 9.
Mining the ore requires a netherite-tier pickaxe. The mod adds the neoforge:needs_netherite_tool tag to the ore's incorrect-for-iron and incorrect-for-diamond tool lists, so an iron or diamond pickaxe cannot harvest it at all.
Breaking the ore without a Silk Touch enchantment drops Raw Mithril, and Fortune applies to the drop as ore bonus. A Silk Touch pickaxe mines the ore block itself.
Crafting
Mithril is refined in three steps:
- Smelting Raw Mithril. Raw Mithril is cooked in a blast furnace or with the blasting recipe, which takes 200 ticks (10 seconds) and gives 40 experience, into one Mithril Scrap.
- Scrap to ingot. Four Mithril Scrap in a 2×2 crafting grid make one Mithril Ingot.
- Ingot to scrap. A Mithril Ingot can be blasted back into four Mithril Scrap in 100 ticks with no experience. Because of this, Scrap and ingots can be converted in either direction, and lost scrap is never wasted.

Loot and drops
Mithril Scrap and Mithril Ingots appear in dungeon loot. The Citadel vault chest contains Mithril Scrap in 47% of chests, with an average of 1.7 scrap per chest. The full loot list is shown below.

Usage
Mithril is the ingot tier for several of the mod's mid-game items, and it is also the first metal in the pack that can be used as a jewelry material.
- Mithril Weave. Five Mithril Ingots placed in the corners and center of a 3×3 grid, alternating with four chains in the edge positions, make one Mithril Weave. The weave is the main component of several mod armor and robe recipes, including the Lightbringer Chestplate and the Infernal Sorcerer Chestplate.
- Mithril Scrap. Mithril Scrap is an ingredient in a broader set of recipes than the ingot. It is used in ring recipes such as the Ring of Expediency and the Ring of Visibility, and in the Frostbranded Book.
- Jewelry. The mod's jewelry system accepts the
c:ingots/mithriltag as a material. Mithril jewelry is rated at quality 3 and grants a +5% spell power bonus. Mithril jewelry can also roll the positive effect Charged and the negative effect Rend.
