The Inscription Table is a utility block added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks that transfers spells between a spell book and a scroll. It is a horizontal, two-block-wide table with a wooden look, and it is the only way in the mod's base content to copy a spell out of a spell book onto a scroll and back again. A player needs one to build up a spell library without relying on loot or trades.

Obtaining

Crafting is the only obtaining method listed in the mod's data. The Inscription Table is not in any loot table as a placed item (its own loot table only drops the block itself), and it is not sold by any villager trade.

Crafting the table grants the "Inscription Table" advancement, which is a child of the mod's root advancement. Breaking the table drops one Inscription Table item.

The table is 2.5 hardness and is mined most efficiently with an axe, since the mod adds it to the vanilla mineable/axe tag. Its blast resistance is 2.5.

Pyromancer Tower cellar dungeon rooms use the Inscription Table as one of their room decorations. The Pyromancer Tower structure is a natural source of the block for players who do not want to craft it.

Usage

The Inscription Table opens a menu with three item slots and the player's inventory. The slots are:

  • Spell book slot: accepts any spell book item. A spell book in a Curios spellbook slot is linked to this slot, so the spell book in that slot can be inscribed without being moved out of it.
  • Scroll slot: accepts a single scroll item.
  • Result slot: holds the scroll produced by the currently selected spell.

Extracting a spell

Placing a spell book in the book slot lists the spells it contains. Selecting a spell puts a scroll holding that spell in the result slot. Taking the scroll removes the spell from the spell book, so extraction moves a spell rather than copying it. Spells that cannot be removed from the book (their canRemove flag is false) do not produce a result.

Inscribing a spell

Placing an empty or matching scroll in the scroll slot and clicking a spell slot in the spell book inscribes the scroll's spell into that slot. The scroll is consumed on success, and the spell is added at the chosen index with its level. Inscription fires an InscribeSpellEvent before it takes effect, so other mods can cancel it.

Notes

  • The table's menu checks that the player stays within 8 blocks (squared distance 64) of the block, and it closes if the block is removed.
  • Because the table moves spells rather than duplicating them, a spell cannot be copied with it. The mod's Scroll Forge and the Arcane Anvil are the other ways to make scrolls.
  • The table is waterlogged when placed in water and uses the vanilla wooden block sound.
