The Pyromancer Tower is an overworld structure added by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. It is a stone tower with a buried cellar beneath it, and its chests and rooms are stocked with fire-school scrolls, affinity rings and Fire Ale. Most of the tower lies below ground in storage rooms, casks and dead ends. A Pyromancer is stationed in its basement, so the tower is one of the places where a player can meet that mob in a confined space.

Generation

The tower is placed by a random-spread structure set that uses the biome tag #irons_spellbooks:has_structure/pyromancer_tower. It can generate in the Overworld in 115 biomes, including plains, forests, hills and swamps. The biome list includes the Dark Forest and Ominous Woods biomes, which the pack weights at 6× in its horror distribution, so the tower is more common in the pack's darker forests than in vanilla terrain.

The placement uses a spacing of 163 chunks and a separation of 96 chunks. In a 26 km² sample the tower appeared about once. The structure is generated in the underground decoration step. The surface tower sits on the terrain, and the cellar pieces are buried beneath it. The jigsaw assembly is seven pieces deep, and its pieces lie no more than 96 blocks from the start point.

From outside, the tower is a building of stone bricks, mossy cobblestone, blackstone and deepslate, with spruce planks, stairs and doors. It stands on podzol and grass with moss, azaleas and large ferns around its base. Barrels, campfires, lanterns and carved pumpkins are placed on and around the tower.

Layout

The tower has two parts, joined by a staircase.

  • Surface tower. The above-ground part is a single tower with a staircase inside it. A downward staircase leads from the tower to the basement.
  • Basement. The basement lies below the tower. It has barrels, chests, bookshelves, a lectern, a brewing stand, a water cauldron and a writable book. A pedestal holds a Fire Ale. A Pyromancer is placed in this room, wearing Pyromancer armor and carrying a spell container with a fire-school spell. The Pyromancer is set to persist, so it does not despawn.
  • Cellar. A stairway leads from the basement into the cellar, a network of buried rooms and corridors. Its room types include cask racks, ledges lined with casks, jail cells, rubble dead ends, rubble turns, cracked wall openings, cramped junctions, candle storage, pot storage, shelf storage and dual storage rooms. Some dual storage rooms have a secret second room. Research rooms hold an Inscription Table, wisewood bookshelves and unchained books. Statue passages and rooms with book stacks line some corridors.

Room decorations such as barrels, bookshelves, shelves, cobwebs and table candles are chosen at random for each room. The tower's processor list also alters the blocks. Some mossy blocks are replaced with less mossy forms, some decorated pots are removed or replaced with flower pots, and some book stacks are removed.

Inhabitants

A Pyromancer is placed in the basement of each tower, and it is the only mob that the structure places. Pyromancers are hostile spellcasters, so a player who enters the basement should expect to fight one in a small room with a limited view.

Loot

The tower's chests are split into the surface tower and the underground rooms.

The burnt chest in the surface tower always contains 7 to 16 gunpowder and 7 to 16 charcoal, along with a Ghast Tear. Its last roll offers either a fire-school affinity ring with a randomized enhancement or a fire-school scroll.

The basement and cellar chests use four loot tables.

  • Pyromancer supplies has 15 rolls, mostly for arcane essence (1 to 3 per stack), along with candles, paper, pumpkins, obsidian and blaze rods. It has a 40% chance of a basic curio, and it can also contain a fire-school scroll with a quality of 0.1 to 0.65.
  • Basic storage has a 40% chance of a fire-school scroll with a quality of 0.0 to 0.4. It can also contain a magic cloth or a blank rune, and it has 0 to 3 rolls for ink, arcane essence, books, paper, cobwebs and candles.
  • Fire ale cask contains 0 to 2 Fire Ale, along with 3 to 9 rolls of glass bottles, potions, pumpkins, sugar, honeycomb, fermented spider eyes, wheat and water buckets.
  • Fire ale trove contains 5 to 9 Fire Ale.

The best loot for a fire-focused build is the fire-school affinity ring and fire-school scrolls from the burnt chest, the basic storage chest and the pyromancer supplies chest, along with the Fire Ale from the casks and troves. The generated table below lists the chances for the shared generic magic treasure loot.

Tips

Deal with the Pyromancer in the basement before exploring the cellar, because the cellar is a maze of dead ends that makes retreating difficult. Mark your route through the cellar, since many rooms look alike.

Read the Fire Spells page before you go, because the Pyromancer uses a fire-school spell and the tower's loot is tuned toward fire-school gear.
