Snowblossom Grove is a cold overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is the home of the snowblossom tree, and its snowfall and cold climate set it apart from the temperate forests around it. In Fear Nightfall it is an uncommon biome with a long hostile monster table, so it is dangerous at night.

The grove covers about 0.13% of the pack's surface land and appears in about 0.02% of the cave layer at y=-30.

Description

Snowblossom Grove has a temperature of -0.25 and a downfall of 0.8. Its precipitation is snow, so the surface receives snowfall instead of rain. Its colours are a grey-green grass (#8ea88b), a muted foliage green (#75936e), a pale blue fog (#c0d8ff), a cold blue sky (#819fff) and blue water (#3f76e4).

The defining plant is the snowblossom tree, a tree with a cherry-style canopy. Its leaves are snowblossom leaves, and they emit snowblossom particles that drift down toward the ground. Trees are placed in each chunk with 7 attempts (weighted 9:1 against 8 attempts). A tree is placed only where the surface is dry, so trees do not grow in lakes or rivers within the grove.

Ambient sound is the standard cave ambience, with a mood sound attempted every 6000 ticks (5 minutes). The background music is the overworld cherry grove track, with a delay of 12000 to 24000 ticks (10 to 20 minutes) between plays. It does not replace music that is already playing.

Generation

Snowblossom Grove is a cold overworld biome. Its data tags it as cold, snowy and rare, and it carries the tag that biases stronghold placement toward the biome.

Fear Nightfall does not give the grove extra weight in its biome distribution. It is not one of the biomes given 6× weight in the pack, which is reserved for the dark forests, swamps, dead forests and horror caves. Its share of the surface is listed in the infobox.

Features

  • Trees: snowblossom trees, as described above.
  • Ground cover: grass patches, and a flower patch of white petals placed where a noise threshold allows.
  • Wild plants: wild flax from Supplementaries and cave urns from the same mod are placed features of the biome.
  • Ores: the standard vanilla overworld ore set (coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond, and the stone-type veins of andesite, diorite, granite and tuff, plus gravel and dirt veins). Diamond ore has several placements, including buried and large variants.
  • Mod ores: Mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Sulfur ore and sulfur regeneration from Butchery, black argillite from Born in Chaos, and infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos.
  • Terrain features: forest rock from vanilla and a cliff feature from Stony Cliffs.
  • Underground water: glow squids spawn in the underground water.

Mobs and structures

The monster table has 57 entries. It is led by spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes (weight 100 each), then zombies (95). The horror mobs are common: revenants (25), slime golems (25), skeleton creepers (20), necromancers (18) and the Dread Hound and Nightmare (7 each). Several other Born in Chaos and graveyard mobs are also in the table.

The passive mobs are sheep (weight 12), foxes (8) and rabbits (4). The ambient category holds bats (10). In water the fish include bluegill and perch (20 each), along with blossom bass (3). Corpse fish (3) and glutton fish (1) are the rarer water mobs. Snow fox and white rabbit variants are assigned to the grove by biome tags.

Structures that can generate here include illager hideouts, ice spider dens, graveyard dead trees and ruins, Born in Chaos firewells, Iron's Spellbooks catacombs, and igloos from vanilla and Formations. Up to 189 structures can generate in the grove.

Tips

  • Carry a light source at night. The grove's monster table is long, and the Revenants, Necromancers and Dread Hounds appear alongside the common spiders and skeletons.
  • Ice spiders from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks patrol the grove, so expect them near the ice spider dens.
  • Sheep, rabbits and foxes are the only passive mobs here, so they are the only animals to hunt for food.
  • Mithril, sulfur and infected diamond ore are all placed here, so the grove is a useful place to mine.
  • Snowblossom saplings and leaves are found in other Biomes O' Plenty trees.
