The Sulfur is a raw mineral added by Butchery. It is mined from two ore blocks that generate underground throughout the overworld, and it has one main use: a water bottle brewed with sulfur becomes a Bottle of Sulfuric Acid, which is used on carcasses to strip organic material from them. Sulfur is one of the early chemistry inputs of the mod, alongside salt. No crafting recipe in the mod takes sulfur as an ingredient, so its only use is the acid it produces.

Obtaining

Sulfur comes from two ore blocks, Sulfur Ore and Deepslate Sulfur Ore. Both are mined with a pickaxe, with a hardness of 1. With Silk Touch, the ore block itself is collected. Without Silk Touch, Sulfur Ore drops one Sulfur. Deepslate Sulfur Ore uses the ore-drop rules, so the Fortune enchantment can increase its yield.

Both ores are generated by a worldgen feature added to every biome, including modded biomes, in the underground ore step:

The Deepslate variant is therefore the much more common source, and it is found in the deeper half of the overworld where deepslate generates. Both ores are controlled by the Sulfur Ore Generation config option, which is enabled by default. Players who run ore-generation mods that also add sulfur may want to disable it to avoid overlapping veins.

Sulfur itself is not sold, but a Bottle of Sulfuric Acid is offered by the Butcher villager at the level 3 (Journeyman) trade tier, for 4 emeralds. See the trade list below.

Usage

Sulfuric acid

Sulfur is brewed into a Bottle of Sulfuric Acid. The brewing recipe takes a water bottle (a Potion of Water in a regular, splash or lingering bottle) and any item in the c:sulfur tag, which in this pack is the Sulfur item. Brewing one sulfur into one water bottle produces one Bottle of Sulfuric Acid, which stacks to 16. The Bottle of Sulfuric Acid is the same item as the acid bottle used on carcasses.

Acid on carcasses

Right-clicking a carcass with an acid bottle consumes the bottle and plays the acid sound. The acid is used on carcasses of most mobs, and each mob has its own acid procedure in the mod. In the Butcher's Guide, the acid is described as melting away organic material and leaving skeletal remains behind. The exact block that the carcass changes into was not verified for this page; see Butchering for the carcass processing steps.

Other uses

No crafting recipe in the mod takes sulfur or the Bottle of Sulfuric Acid as an ingredient.
