Withered Heart and Pillager Friend

From the Fear Nightfall wiki · Butchery

Withered Heart and Pillager Friend covers two neutral mob effects added by the Butchery mod. Withers Blessing is applied to a player who eats a Withered Heart, an organ cut from a Wither. While it lasts, each time the player takes damage there is a 5% chance of full damage protection. Pillager? is applied while a player wears the complete Pillager Armor set, and it does not change combat on its own. Both effects matter in Fear Nightfall because the pack places pillagers in Pillager Outposts and Withers are among the mobs whose carcasses the mod turns into loot.

Effects

Both effects are applied with particles and HUD icons hidden.

Withers Blessing

Withers Blessing is granted by eating a Withered Heart. The Withered Heart is a food item with a nutrition value of 18 and a saturation modifier of 0.3. It can be eaten at any hunger level. Eating it restores hunger as normal and applies Withers Blessing at level II for 6000 ticks (5 minutes).

Eating a Withered Heart also carries a risk. Each time one is eaten, there is a 25% chance to apply the Wither effect at level XIII for 250 ticks (12.5 seconds) to the eater. This roll only happens when no blessing is active. Eating a second Withered Heart while the blessing is still running restores hunger but adds no effect. A cooldown flag clears 6000 ticks after the blessing was first applied, so the next blessing can be taken once the first one has ended.

While a player has Withers Blessing, each time the player takes damage there is a 5% chance that the blessing triggers. A trigger applies two effects for 2400 ticks (120 seconds):

  • Regeneration at level III.
  • Damage Resistance at level 100, which blocks most incoming damage and is effectively immunity.

The roll runs after the hit has been applied, so the hit that triggers it still lands. On average, a blessed player triggers the roll once per 20 hits taken.

Obtaining the Withered Heart

A Withered Heart comes from cutting up a Wither Carcass. A Wither drops its carcass only when it is killed with a cleaver or with a weapon enchanted with Butcher's Touch or Hunter, because the mod's "Only Cleavers Drop Carcasses" option is on by default. The carcass must then be hung on a hook, bled, drained, and cut up with a cleaver or skinning knife, as described in Carcasses and Corpses and Butchering. Each cut-up roll yields one Withered Heart, and it also has a 50% chance of yielding 1 to 6 Wither Bone.

Pillager?

Pillager? is applied only when a player wears all four pieces of Pillager Armor at once: the Pillager Mask, the Pillager Robe Top, the Pillager Robe Bottom and the Pillager Boots. The Pillager Mask checks for the full set every tick while it is in the wearer's helmet slot. When the set is complete, the player receives Pillager? at level II with a duration of 3 ticks. The check repeats every tick, so the effect stays active while the full set is worn and ends about 3 ticks after any piece is removed.

When Pillager? starts, the mod adds the wearer to a scoreboard team named pillager_disguised and adds every loaded pillager to the same team. When the effect expires, the wearer leaves the team. The effect's tick handler does nothing, and the mod does not configure the team, so Pillager? has no direct combat effect. It marks that the armor set is worn.

A Pillager Mask can also be obtained by right-clicking a placed Pillager Head with a skinning knife in the main hand. This drops a Pillager Mask, bone meal, an eye and a brain. The rest of the Pillager Armor set comes from mob drops and loot; see Butchery Armor.

Tips

  • Eating a Withered Heart is a 25% gamble on Wither XIII for 12.5 seconds, so eat it only when the damage from that burst can be survived.
  • Withers Blessing protects only from hits taken after the trigger, so it is best used before a long fight, not after the player is already low on health.
  • Pillager? does not protect against pillagers. Wear the full set for its marker only, and rely on other gear for protection.
