Mob Parts are a group of 17 items added by Butchery that are cut from mobs during butchering. They include the spikes used in the spike traps, the turtle shell fragments used in turtle shell armor, the hoof and tentacles, and several edible chunks and cuts. Most of them come from a carcass that has been cut up with a cleaver or skinning knife, so they are a part of the pack's butchering progression rather than an ordinary drop.
Obtaining
Mob parts come from the Butchering process. A mob must first leave a carcass. Butchery creates a carcass only when the killing blow is made with a tool tagged as a cleaver, or with a weapon enchanted with Butcher's Touch. A bow or crossbow enchanted with Hunter also works. The Only Cleavers Drop Carcasses config option is on by default in the mod. The carcass is then bled, drained and cut up with a cleaver or skinning knife while it hangs on a hook. The cut-up step rolls the mob parts from that mob's loot tables.
The parts and the mobs that yield them:
- Hoof from donkeys, skeleton horses, pigs, hoglins, red mooshrooms, piglins and goats.
- Bat Wing from bats.
- Tentacles from squids and glow squids.
- Guardian Spike from guardians.
- Pufferfish Spike from pufferfish.
- Slime Chunks from slimes.
- Magma Chunks from magma cubes.
- Turtle Shell Fragment from turtles.
- Elder Guardian Eye and Elder Guardian Spike from elder guardians.
- Poison Sac and Bee Wings from bees.
Coins are the exception. A Coin is a reward for finding one of Butchery's secrets. It is redeemed by right-clicking it on a Cash Register. The loot table that a Coin reward rolls from is set in the config and defaults to the End City treasure chest table.
Butchery's loot also reaches the structure chests that Fear Nightfall maps to vanilla chests, so Butchery items can appear in those chests as well as from butchering.
Usage
Most mob parts have a crafting or cooking use:
- Turtle Shell Fragment is the main input for turtle shell armor. It appears in 24 recipes, including the boots. See Butchery Armor.
- Guardian Spike is crafted with 3 Smooth Stone Slabs into a Spike Trap, using 6 Guardian Spikes. The Elder Guardian Spike is used the same way for the Elder Spike Trap.
- Hoof is used with a Pestle and Mortar to make a Slimeball.
- Tentacles can be cooked into Calamari. The smoking recipe takes 100 ticks. The smelting and campfire recipes take 200 ticks each. Each gives 1.0 experience.
Five mob parts are edible: Tentacles, Slime Chunks, Magma Chunks, Elder Guardian Eye and Poison Sac. Their hunger and saturation values are listed in the item table below.

Replacing vanilla drops
Slime Chunks and Magma Chunks take the place of the vanilla Slimeball and Magma Cream drops that a slime or magma cube would otherwise leave. This follows the general Butchery rule that a carcass drop removes matching vanilla drops within 20 blocks of the death. The full list is on the Butchery page.
Items
Short notes on the items with the most distinctive behaviour:
- Guardian Spike and Elder Guardian Spike are crafting inputs for the spike traps. Neither is edible.
- Frog Balloon (gray, green and orange) is non-stackable. The three colours are separate items.
- Coin is an uncommon reward item. The Obtaining section above describes how it is redeemed.
