Salt (Butchery) is a mineral material added by the Butchery mod, with a family of related blocks: the salt item, the salt block and four salt formation blocks. Salt is one of the early chemistry inputs in the pack. It is generated naturally on water-side surfaces in every biome and can be produced in bulk by a Basin, so a player has a steady supply without needing deep exploration. Salt stacks to 64, as do all of its blocks.

Obtaining

Salt is obtained in three ways: from natural generation, from a Basin, and by crafting from other salt.

  • Salt discs (natural generation). A salt disc is generated in one of every 8 chunks, but only where the surface column has water. The feature needs a water fluid at the surface, targets dirt and clay as its host blocks, and has a radius of 2 to 3 blocks and a half-height of 1. It places salt blocks and salt formations. Salt discs are generated in all biomes, including modded biomes, through a biome modifier. The worldgen step is surface_structures. Salt discs appear around any water-bordered surface, which can overlap with other mods that add water-side decoration.
  • Basin. The Basin is the main source of salt in bulk. See the Basin production section below.
  • Crafting. Nine salt craft into one salt block. See the crafting grid below.

Usage

Salt is mainly used as a stored output of the Basin and as the ingredient of the salt block. The recipes that use salt are listed in the crafting section above.

Basin production

The Basin is a workstation block with a single inventory slot. It holds up to 1000 mB of water, and it produces salt by evaporating that water over a cycle of checks.

  1. Filling. Right-click the Basin while holding a water bucket in the main hand. This fills the Basin tank with 1000 mB of water and starts the cycle. The Basin must be empty, and it must not already be evaporating. The water bucket is returned as an empty bucket.
  2. Evaporation stages. The Basin checks its state every 1000 ticks (at timer values 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000). At each check the stage advances only if it is daytime, the Basin can see the sky above it, and it is not raining. If any of these conditions fails at the exact check tick, the stage does not advance and the cycle stalls. Each successful stage drains 166 mB of water, except the final stage, which drains 170 mB.
  3. Yield. Each successful stage adds Salt Basin Yield items (default 1) to the Basin inventory. With the default setting, a complete cycle of six stages produces 6 salt.
  4. Collection. When the cycle is complete, the Basin is ready to be harvested. Right-click it with an empty main hand to remove one salt per click. Each salt drops from the Basin as an item entity with a short pick-up delay. When the slot is empty, the Basin resets to its idle state.

A full cycle takes 6000 ticks of successful daytime checks, which is about five minutes of game time at the normal tick rate. Because the checks are exact, a Basin that is placed in a shaded area or under a roof never completes its cycle.

Note: the Basin only advances while it is daytime, the Basin can see the sky, and it is not raining. A Basin under a roof or in a rainy period does not produce salt.

Salt formations

Salt formations are a column of four block types: the salt formation tip, the salt formation middle, the salt formation base and the salt formation frustum. They are generated as part of salt discs and can also be placed by a player. The column changes when blocks are added or removed:

  • Placing a salt formation tip directly on top of another tip turns the lower tip into a frustum.
  • Placing another tip on top of that stack turns the frustum into a base. The column is then a tip, a frustum and a base from top to bottom.
  • Breaking the frustum in a tip, frustum and base column turns the tip above into a tip and the base below into a frustum.
  • A salt formation tip with air beneath it breaks and drops its item.

Salt formation blocks have a hardness of 1 and a blast resistance of 1. They can be broken with any tool.

Salt block

The salt block has a hardness of 1 and a blast resistance of 0.5. It uses sand sounds. It is generated in salt discs and can be crafted from nine salt. It has a facing block state with four directions.

Items

  • Salt (butchery:salt) is the base item. It stacks to 64 and has the common c:salt tag.
  • Salt Block (butchery:salt_block) is the compressed form of salt. It is generated in salt discs and crafted from nine salt.
  • Salt Formation (tip, middle, base, frustum) are the four decorative blocks of the formation column. Each has a hardness of 1 and a blast resistance of 1. The base block has a waterlogged state.
