Butchery Tools are the cleavers, skinning knives, hammers and hacksaws added by the Butchery mod. Each type comes in six material tiers: copper, iron, gold, diamond, netherite and bone. Cleavers and skinning knives use the sword class, hammers use the pickaxe class and hacksaws use the axe class. The cleaver is the most important of them. By default a mob kill drops a carcass only when the killer holds a cleaver, or has the Butcher's Touch or Hunter enchantment, so the cleaver is the gateway to the mod's meat, organ and skin items. Cleavers use 3 sticks and 2 material ingredients, skinning knives use 1 stick and 2 material, hammers use 2 sticks and 5 material and hacksaws use 4 sticks and 2 material. The material is the metal ingot, Bone or Diamond of the matching tier. The bone tier is a separate line that uses Bone and Stick and needs no metal. Netherite tools are not crafted directly. They are upgraded at a smithing table from the diamond version of the same tool, using a Smithing Template and a Netherite Ingot.

The Butcher villager sells an iron cleaver and an iron skinning knife for emeralds, as well as sponges and several butchery blocks. Each trade listing has a maximum of 10 uses and grants 5 experience per use.

Usage

Cleavers and skinning knives

Cleavers and skinning knives are sword-class weapons. They share the butchery:cleaver and butchery:knives item tags, and both can bleed and cut up carcasses. A cleaver is required for a carcass to drop from a kill when Only Cleavers Drop Carcasses is on, which is the default. The Butcher's Touch enchantment from Butchery Enchantments has the same effect for melee kills, and the Hunter enchantment does the same for bows and crossbows.

Right-clicking a carcass hung on a hook with a cleaver or knife starts a 900-tick (45 second) bleed. Once the bleed finishes, the same tool cuts the drained carcass up into meat, organs and skins. Looting applies to cut-up drops when the Looting Enchantment option is on, which is the default. The Organs option, also on by default, adds organ drops to the cut-up output.

Skinning knives do the same cut-up work as cleavers but do not drop carcasses on their own. Every cleaver and skinning knife has an attack speed of 1.8, so the tiers differ in damage and durability. Their values are shown in the table below.

Hammers and hacksaws

Hammers are pickaxe-class tools and hacksaws are axe-class tools. Both are listed in the vanilla minecraft:pickaxes and minecraft:axes tags, so they mine the blocks those tools normally mine. The iron hammer has a mining speed of 6.0 and the iron hacksaw has a mining speed of 4.0. Iron hammers and hacksaws have 250 durability, the same as iron cleavers. The copper hacksaw is the outlier among the hacksaws, with an attack speed of 4.5, while the other hacksaws attack at 1.0.

Crafting wear

Cleavers, skinning knives and hammers are not fully consumed when used as a crafting ingredient. Each one returns to the grid with one point of durability lost, and it is removed when its durability reaches zero. Hacksaws behave differently. A hacksaw used in a recipe returns as a fresh, undamaged copy, so using one as an ingredient costs no durability.

Pestle & Mortar

The Pestle & Mortar is a placeable block with a two-slot container. It is crafted from 3 stone and 3 oak slabs, and it has 1 hardness and 10 blast resistance. The first slot takes bone-type items: the Hoof, Wither Bone, Icey Bone, Sculk Bone and anything in the butchery:crushable_bone tag. The second slot takes the matching meal item (bone meal, slime ball or the equivalent) in a stack of up to 63. After 150 ticks of progress, one item is removed from the input slot.

Sponge and Rag

The Sponge has 4062 durability and is included in the enchantable durability tag. The Butcher sells it. The Rag is crafted from 6 String and does not stack.

The netherite hacksaw has 1561 durability, lower than the other netherite tools, which have 2032. The gold tier has the lowest durability of the metal tools, at 32.
