Butchery Workstations are the blocks added by the Butchery mod that process carcasses, blood, meat and salt. They include the Hook that holds a carcass during bleeding and cut-up, the Blood Grate that collects the blood, the Meat Grinder, the Wooden Spit Rotisserie, the Basin that produces salt, the Freezer, and a set of butchers' tables and decorative blocks. The functional stations are used in the sequence described in Butchering: a carcass from Carcasses and Corpses is hung on a Hook, bled, drained and cut up, and the resulting meat, organs and skins go to the Meat Grinder, the Rotisserie or the Freezer.
Most of the stations are crafted from iron, planks or vanilla blocks, and their main inputs are the products of butchering. They are the core of the mod's food and chemistry progression, so players usually build them early.
Obtaining
These blocks are not generated in the world, and no mob drops them. The mod's loot modifiers add only smithing templates to vanilla chests. Players get the stations by crafting them or by trading with a Butcher villager.
Crafting
Trading
The Butcher villager trade set includes the Hook, Blood Grate and Basin, priced in emeralds, alongside the iron cleaver, skinning knife, sponge and several cuts of meat. The full list is in the table below.
| Trader | Level | Cost | Result | Max uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Butcher | 4 | Basin ×1 | Emerald ×2 | 10 |
| Butcher | 1 | Blood Grate ×1 | Emerald ×2 | 10 |
| Butcher | 1 | Hook ×1 | Emerald ×2 | 10 |
Usage
Hook
A Hook holds one carcass. A carcass placed on a Hook switches to the hung state, and a hung carcass can be right-clicked with a cleaver or skinning knife in the main hand to start bleeding. Sausages can also be hung on a Hook.
A hung carcass bleeds for 900 ticks (45 seconds). The bleeding is shown in 32 checkpoints at 28-tick intervals, and each checkpoint fills the Blood Grate or spawns blood. When the timer ends, the carcass becomes the matching drained carcass. The config option "Instant Bleeding" skips the timer and drains the carcass at once; it is off by default.
A drained carcass on a Hook is cut up by a right-click with a cleaver or skinning knife. Each cut-up rolls drops from the carcass's loot tables. When the "Looting Enchantment" option is on (the default), the Looting enchantment raises the roll. When the "Organs" option is on (also the default), organs are added to the drops. See Butchering for the full cut-up process and Organs for the organ items.
Blood Grate
The Blood Grate is the only workstation block with a hardness of 5 and a blast resistance of 6. The other stations have hardness 1 and blast resistance 10. It is placed beneath a hung carcass. While the carcass bleeds, the blood fills the grate instead of spilling onto the ground. If no grate is present, the "Blood Puddle" option (on by default) spawns a Blood puddle instead. The "Blood Spread" option (on by default) lets blood blocks spread.
Meat Grinder
The Meat Grinder is a block with a progress display. It takes raw meat and produces mince, for example raw beef mince and raw lamb mince. If Farmer's Delight is installed, minced beef from that mod is used as the output for beef instead. The grinder also assembles sausages. A raw sausage needs a sausage attachment and intestines in the input slots, and a blood sausage also needs a Bottle of Blood (or any item in the blood bottle tag). The output is placed in the result slot.
Mince and sausages are listed in Butchery Meats.
Wooden Spit Rotisserie
The Wooden Spit Rotisserie cooks a carcass that is placed on it. Cooking runs only while a campfire block is directly below the spit. When cooking starts, the spit counts 1800 ticks to reach its second state and 3600 ticks (three minutes) to reach its final state, at which point cooking stops. If the campfire is removed, the spit does not cook.
Salt Basin
The Basin produces salt from water. It must be filled with liquid, and its evaporation runs in stages at 1000-tick intervals. Each stage drains 166 units of fluid from the basin and adds salt to its inventory. A stage pays out only if three conditions are met at that moment: the sky is visible above the basin, it is daytime, and it is not raining. The fluid level must also match the stage. If any condition fails, that stage produces no salt.
The number of salt produced per stage is set by the "Salt Basin Yield" option. Its default is 1. The option's description calls 5 the standard yield, so a server that wants the standard amount must raise the value. Salt is described in Salt (Butchery).
Freezer
The Freezer has its own inventory and is used as a butchers' display for storing items. It is crafted from iron ingots, white concrete and redstone dust.
Butchers' tables and decorative blocks
The eight wooden butchers' tables (one for each wood type), the mangrove table and the metal butchers table are decorative. Each has a facing and a block state, and the code found for them only handles placement and breaking. The Metal Tray has only a facing and no behaviour, so it is also decorative. The metal butchers table is made from iron trapdoors and iron ingots, which makes it the iron-based alternative to the wooden tables.
