Items3

The Wishbones are three items added by Butchery: the Wishbone, the Broken Wishbone and the Magic Wishbone. A Wishbone is taken from a drained chicken carcass and can be processed into bone meal. A Wishbone can also be brewed into a Magic Wishbone with a Nether Star. Breaking a Magic Wishbone triggers a random event that can spawn mobs, apply effects or drop loot, so it is a risky item to break.

Obtaining

From drained chicken carcasses

A Wishbone is taken from a Drained Chicken Carcass block by right-clicking it with an empty main hand. Each carcass can be picked this way only once: a flag is set on the block after the first attempt. The attempt succeeds with the chance set by the config option Wishbone Chance, which defaults to 0.25. A successful attempt drops one Wishbone one block above the carcass. A failed attempt drops one Broken Wishbone at the same position instead. The dropped item has a pick-up delay of 10 ticks.

Trading

Villagers sell Wishbones for 5 emeralds each, as listed below.

Usage

Breaking a Wishbone

Right-clicking with a Wishbone in the main hand consumes one Wishbone and gives the player one Broken Wishbone. A sound plays on the break.

Crafting ingredient

Wishbones and Broken Wishbones are processed into bone meal. The Pestle and Mortar converts either item into 2 bone meal. A stonecutter converts a Broken Wishbone into 1 bone meal.

Magic Wishbone

A Magic Wishbone is made in a brewing stand. A Wishbone in a bottle slot, with a Nether Star as the ingredient, produces a Magic Wishbone in that slot. The Nether Star is consumed once per brew, so a full brew of three bottles uses three Wishbones and one Nether Star.

Breaking a Magic Wishbone consumes it and rolls a random outcome from 1 to 23. The roll is not seeded from the world, so the same break can produce different results. The config option Magic Wishbone turns these events on or off and defaults to on. The item is rated Epic and stacks to 16. Its in-game description reads "Causes random events. Do not use in your base!"

The outcomes are:

  • 1: spawns 5 to 16 zombies.
  • 5: spawns TNT.
  • 6: spawns a Silverfish.
  • 7: spawns a Skeleton.
  • 8: applies Poison for 2400 ticks (2 minutes) at level III.
  • 9: applies five effects, each for 9600 ticks (8 minutes) at level III: Strength, Haste, Regeneration, Water Breathing and Luck.
  • 10: applies Hunger for 2400 ticks at level III.
  • 11: sets the player on fire for 5 seconds.
  • 12: shows a chat message only ("Oof. It was a dud!").
  • 13: applies Levitation for 900 ticks (45 seconds) at level III.
  • 14: shows a "Duplication?!" chat message.
  • 15: shows an "Armor of the gods!" chat message and gives a Diamond Helmet enchanted with Protection IV.
  • 16: shows a "You will never fly again" chat message.
  • 17 to 19: spawns one of three structure traps. Outcome 19 also spawns a Cave Spider.
  • 20: applies Fire Resistance for 240 ticks (12 seconds) at level II.
  • 21: shows a "LEVEL UP!" chat message.
  • 22: shows a "Pickaxe of the gods!" chat message.
  • 23: rolls a loot table of 20 entries with equal weight. The entries include iron ingots, gold ingots, diamonds, netherite ingots, ender pearls, a Nether Star, a Beacon, a Cake, a Netherite Cleaver, a Netherite Skinning Knife, a Dragon Smithing Template, a Redstone Block and an Enchanted Golden Apple, among others.

The spawned mobs and the effects of outcomes 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 19 are hazards in an unprepared area. The in-game warning against breaking a Magic Wishbone inside a base reflects this.
