Butchery Enchantments

From the Fear Nightfall wiki · Butchery

The Butchery Enchantments are two weapon enchantments added by Butchery: Butcher and Hunter. Both are single-level enchantments that change which kills produce a carcass item instead of only vanilla drops. Without them, a carcass drops only when the killer holds a cleaver (see Butchering). With them, a Butcher-enchanted weapon or a Hunter-enchanted bow or crossbow produces the same carcass result, so neither requires a cleaver.

Enchantments

Both enchantments have a maximum level of 1. Their enchanting costs have a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 at level 1, and their anvil cost is 1.

The in-game descriptions of the enchantments are short. The mechanics below are taken from the carcass drop handlers, which read the enchantment from the killer's main-hand item.

EnchantmentMax levelWeightApplies toSlotsDescription
Butcher110#butchery:enchantable/weaponmainhandAllows carcasses to drop when placed on weapons and tools.
Hunter110#butchery:ranged_weaponsmainhandAllows carcasses to drop when placed on bows and crossbows.

Butcher

Butcher (butchery:butcherstouch) can be applied to any item in the weapon enchantable tag, which the mod points to the vanilla minecraft:enchantable/weapon tag. The in-game description reads "Allows carcasses to drop when placed on weapons and tools."

  • When the killer holds a Butcher-enchanted item in the main hand, a carcass of the killed mob drops, as it would with a cleaver. This satisfies the "Only Cleavers Drop Carcasses" setting, which is on by default.
  • A player killed this way produces a Player Corpse item named " Corpse" that carries the player's name and UUID. Hunter does not do this; only a cleaver or Butcher does.
  • Carcass drops are not enabled for baby mobs.
  • Butcher only affects the kill. Cutting a hung carcass up into meat still requires a cleaver or skinning knife held in the main hand.

Hunter

Hunter (butchery:hunter) can be applied to bows and crossbows. The in-game description reads "Allows carcasses to drop when placed on bows and crossbows."

  • A mob killed by a Hunter-enchanted bow or crossbow drops its carcass, as with a cleaver.
  • Hunter does not produce Player Corpses. A player killed by a bow with Hunter drops no corpse item.

Mechanics

  • Vanilla drop removal. Any carcass kill, whether with Butcher, Hunter or a cleaver, removes nearby vanilla food and material drops (beef, porkchop, leather, bone and similar) and replaces them with the carcass. In this pack the removal radius is 4 blocks, not the mod default of 20.
  • Per-mob toggles. Each mob has its own carcass setting in the mod config. A mob whose setting is off drops no carcass, whichever enchantment is used.
  • Ender Dragon. Killing the Ender Dragon with a cleaver or Butcher-enchanted weapon spawns a Dragon mob instead of a carcass. The Dragon places an Ender Dragon Carcass block once a non-air block is below it.
  • Looting. Looting applies to cut-ups of carcasses, not to the kill.

Obtaining

Both enchantments are in the vanilla non-treasure and tradeable enchantment tags, and in the on-random-loot tag. They can therefore be obtained from the enchanting table, from librarian trades, and as random enchantments on loot.

Tips

  • For a mob farm or hunting setup, Butcher on a sword gives carcasses from every mob type that has its toggle enabled, without carrying a cleaver.
  • Hunter on a crossbow lets a player kill mobs from range and keep the carcass drop.
  • Both enchantments are worth applying when the goal is carcasses. If the goal is Player Corpses, a Butcher-enchanted or cleaver weapon is required.
  • The vanilla item removal within 4 blocks can delete other players' drops near the kill site. Kill mobs away from item piles.
