The Blackwood is a wood set added by Regions Unexplored. It provides a full set of building blocks, from logs and planks to doors, signs and boats, along with a sapling, a shrub, leaves and branches. The set's namesake biome is Blackwood Taiga, which in Fear Nightfall is weighted at 6× among the horror biomes.
Blackwood has no progression gating. Every item is craftable from the start, and the only tools needed are an axe for the wood blocks and a hoe for the leaves.
Obtaining
Blackwood items are obtained by crafting. The base materials are a Blackwood Log, which is harvested from trees and can be cut into planks, and a Blackwood Sapling, which is crafted from a Blackwood Shrub.
- Logs and wood: a Blackwood Log yields 4 Blackwood Planks. Four Blackwood Logs craft into 3 Blackwood Wood. Logs can also be stripped with an axe to make Stripped Blackwood Logs, which in turn make Stripped Blackwood Wood.
- Saplings: two Blackwood Saplings craft into one Blackwood Shrub, and a Blackwood Shrub crafts back into two Blackwood Saplings. The shrub is therefore a way to store and multiply saplings.
- Branches: a Blackwood Log and a stick craft into two Blackwood Branches.

Usage
Blackwood is used like any other wood set. Its planks are the main crafting material for the set's own stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, pressure plates, buttons, signs and boats. Stripped Blackwood Logs are the ingredient for Blackwood Hanging Signs.
The wood set has the following properties:
- Flammable: every wood block and item is flammable, with fuel values from 0.5 items (sapling, button) to 6 items (boats).
- Hardness: the logs, wood and planks have a hardness of 2. The stripped logs and stripped wood have a blast resistance of 3, against 2 for the unstripped logs. The door and trapdoor have a hardness of 3.
- Composting: the leaves compost at 30%, the sapling at 30% and the shrub at 65%.
The leaves have a hardness of 0.2 and are tagged as food and tempt items for the Critters and Companions stick bug, Leaf Insect and snail.
