Maple Forest is a temperate, rainy overworld biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a forest of maple trees, red maple and tall spruce. Of the four maple biomes in Fear Nightfall, it has the largest share of the land surface, at about 0.73%. Its monster table is the same long list used by the other maple biomes, and it is one of the forests where the pack's horror structures are most common.
Maple Forest is a rain-fed forest with a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.5. Its grass is green (#91bc50) and its foliage is a darker green (#629c29). The fog is pale blue (#c0d8ff), the sky is blue (#7aa5ff) and the water is deep blue (#3f76e4).
Parts of the ground are replaced with peat or silt, which are custom dirt families added by Regions Unexplored (see Peat and Silt). Trees rooted on peat or silt get a peat or silt base under the trunk. Fallen maple trees lie on the forest floor, and flower patches and shrubs grow between the trunks.
Snowy Maple Forest
Snowy Maple Forest is a cold variant from Terralith, with a temperature of 0.1 and snowfall. It has red-orange foliage (#ec5448) and is the rarest maple biome, at about 0.02% of the land surface. Its trees are cold-climate maples from Terralith's highland forest set. Its monster table is the same as Maple Forest's, with Ghouls added at weight 25.
Autumnal Maple Forest
Autumnal Maple Forest is a Regions Unexplored biome with yellow-gold grass (#ccb243) and yellow-green foliage (#96b73a). Its shrubs are maple, red maple, orange maple and silver birch. It covers about 0.25% of the land surface. In the pack's biome table it replaces Birch Forest at weight 50.
Windswept Maple Forest
Windswept Maple Forest is a Regions Unexplored biome with a temperature of 0.725 and a downfall of 0.6. It covers about 0.04% of the land surface and replaces Windswept Forest at weight 100. It has rock groups and purple coneflower patches, and its shrubs are oak and birch. Its structures include dark oak houses and a dark forest settlement.
Generation
Maple Forest is a Regions Unexplored forest biome. In the mod's forest group toggles, it is enabled only in a temperature band between -0.1 and 0.2, with Willow Forest in the cooler band below it and Old Growth Forest in the warmer band above it. It is a surface biome and is placed in the overworld only.
The pack does not give Maple Forest the 6× horror weight that is applied to Dark Forest, Blackwood Taiga and other horror biomes. Its horror content comes from the structures and monsters that the pack adds to forests, described below.
Features
Trees: a tree group of maple (weight 4), red maple (weight 1), big maple (weight 1) and tall spruce (weight 4). A fallen maple feature places logs on the ground.
Shrubs: a shrub group of maple (weight 2), red maple (weight 1), oak (weight 1) and spruce (weight 2).
Flowers and plants: forest flowers, short sparse grass, sugar cane, pumpkin patches, wild flax from Supplementaries, wild carrots and wild onions from Farmer's Delight, glow lichen, and red and brown mushrooms.
Decorations: silk cocoons and hanging silk cocoons from Critters and Companions, cave urns from Supplementaries, and cliff features from Stony Cliffs.
Ores: the standard overworld ores, plus ores added by the pack. Infected diamond ore and black argillite come from Born in Chaos, deepslate sulfur ore and salt deposits come from Butchery, and mithril ore comes from Iron's Spells.
Snow: the top layer can freeze into snow.
Mobs and structures
Maple Forest has a long monster table. The vanilla-style monsters (spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies) are at weight 95 or 100. The horror mobs have much lower weights. Notable ones are Dread Hound (weight 7), Dark Vortex (weight 7), Spirit of Chaos (weight 4), Nightmare Stalker (weight 2) and Krampus (weight 1). Necromancers are at weight 18. A witch can spawn at weight 5.
Passive creatures include Crow (weight 20), sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves and Honey Golems. Bats (weight 10) are the most common ambient creature.
About 200 structure types can generate in Maple Forest. The ones most relevant to the pack's horror theme are:
graveyards from Formations Overworld and Graveyard structures, including dead trees and haunted houses;
dark towers and grave sites from Born in Chaos, and an infernal pumpkin site;
The pack places graveyard, Born in Chaos, Hexerei witch hut and gallows structures about 30% closer together than the mods' default spacing, so these structures appear more often in Maple Forest than in a default world.
The tables below list the full set of monsters, creatures, ambient animals, fish and structures.
Maple Forest is a forest with many horror structures, so check a structure with a light before going in.
The monster table includes many monsters at low weight, so expect a mix of vanilla and horror mobs at night. Carry a sword and armour, and build shelter before dark.
Wild carrots, wild onions and sugar cane grow in this biome, so food can be gathered here in daylight.
