Owl Post Office

The Owl Post Office is a surface structure added by Hexerei. It is a single prefabricated building in the Overworld that houses the courier network's owls and their Courier Packages and Courier Letters. Tame owls carry these items between players and courier depots. The building also holds a Coffer and herb chests, which makes it a useful early stop for a player who wants tame owls and the loot they guard.

Generation

The structure generates on the surface of the Overworld, in 12 forest and woodland biomes. These include Forest, Birch Taiga, Old Growth Forest, Orchard, Maple Forest, Willow Forest, Woodland, Pumpkin Patch, Blooming Valley, Blooming Plateau, Redwood Forest and Sleepy Hollows. The full list is in the table below.

Placement uses an in-game spacing of 38 chunks with a separation of 23 chunks. These values already include the pack's spread factor, so the structure is much sparser than the mod's own default placement. The observed density is about two Owl Post Offices per 26 km². The structure does not generate within 10 chunks of a Nature Coven.

The building is set into the ground and adapts to the surrounding slope. Its walls use stone bricks, deepslate tiles and mud bricks. Moss blocks, grass, vines and azalea leaves appear on and around the exterior.

Layout

The Owl Post Office is one template with no connected pieces, so every instance has the same interior. The interior has 25 chiseled bookshelves, 11 barrels, 10 Courier Package blocks and 7 Courier Letter blocks. It also holds a Coffer, four mahogany chests, a decorated pot, potted belladonna, mandrake, yellow dock, mugwort and azalea plants, four witch hazel wall signs and a painting.

The in-game Book of Shadows describes the building as a starter base with a second floor suited to Brooms.

The structure contains 13 infested cobblestone blocks. Breaking an infested block spawns a silverfish, so these blocks need to be dealt with before they are mined.

Inhabitants

Four owls and two vanilla witches are placed in the building when it generates. Owls are tameable couriers with 12 health. A wild owl can be tamed with salmon or cod. Once tame, an owl follows its owner and can be sent on deliveries from the Owl Send Screen. During a delivery, a tame owl force-loads the 3x3 chunks at both ends of its route, and it releases them when its task ends or the owl dies.

The witches are hostile and attack on sight. The building has no boss and no spawner.

Loot

The Courier Package blocks roll the courier package table, which has the most rewarding entries in the building. Its best rolls are Golden Apple (18%), Cake (17%), Gold Rings (15%) and Infused Fabric (15%). Only four of the ten Courier Package blocks carry this table in the template. The other six have no loot table.

The Coffer uses the Nature Coven coffer table. It rolls Block of Gold (5%) and Gold Ingot (28%), alongside Gold Nugget (62%) and Iron Nugget (95%). Two of the four mahogany chests use the Nature Coven herbs table, which rolls Sage and Belladonna Flowers at 26% each.

Tips

• Tame an owl early. Feed it salmon or cod, then use the Owl Send Screen to send packages between players and courier depots.
• Wearing two or more pieces of the Witch armour set makes witches stop targeting the wearer. The set is made from Infused Fabric.
• Expect a silverfish each time you break an infested cobblestone block, and be ready to fight it.
• The Coffer and the two herb chests use the Nature Coven tables. The Coffer offers Gold Ingot and Block of Gold, and the herb chests offer Sage and Belladonna Flowers.
