The Herb Drying Rack is a family of racks added by Hexerei. Its working form is the Drying Rack (Drying Rack), a block with three item slots that dries herbs, sponges, leather and several broom components over time. The family also includes a decorative Herb Drying Rack Full and three wall-mounted racks, one each for the Willow, Mahogany and Witch Hazel wood sets.

The Drying Rack is the source of the dried herbs and of leather made from rotten flesh. Drying needs no power or fuel: once an item is placed in a slot, the rack converts it on its own after a fixed number of ticks.

Crafting

A Drying Rack is crafted with a string above a wooden slab, and a stick on each side of the slab. Any wooden slab can be used, which gives around 70 valid choices. The wall-mounted racks are crafted with two buttons of the matching wood and a stick on the top row, and three slabs of the same wood on the bottom row.

Mixing Cauldron

The Herb Drying Rack Full is not crafted directly. It is made in the Mixing Cauldron from 250 mB of water and one string, two sticks, a Mandrake Plant, a Belladonna Plant, a Yellow Dock Bush, a brown mushroom and a red mushroom. A single-ingredient craft turns the Full block into a Drying Rack.

Usage

Drying

The Drying Rack has three slots, and each slot works independently. Right-clicking the rack with an item in hand places that item in the first slot that is empty or already holds the same item, and then moves to the next slot. A slot holds up to three items. The rack accepts any item, but only items with a drying recipe are converted. Other items stay on the rack unchanged.

Drying starts when the item in a slot matches a recipe. The slot counts down one tick at a time, which is 20 ticks per second, until it reaches the recipe's drying time. The finished item replaces the input with the same count. If the input is removed or replaced before the timer finishes, the timer resets to the full drying time.

The drying recipes are:

• Rotten Flesh to Leather: 2000 ticks (100 seconds)
• Wet Sponge to Sponge: 1000 ticks (50 seconds)
• Wet Broom Brush to Broom Brush: 1000 ticks (50 seconds)
• Wet Moon Dust Brush to Moon Dust Brush: 1200 ticks (60 seconds)
• Wet Herb Enhanced Broom Brush to Herb Enhanced Broom Brush: 2400 ticks (120 seconds)
• Sage to Dried Sage: 2000 ticks (100 seconds)
• Sage Bundle to Dried Sage Bundle: 4000 ticks (200 seconds)
• Belladonna Flowers to Dried Belladonna Flowers: 2000 ticks (100 seconds)
• Mandrake Flowers to Dried Mandrake Flowers: 2000 ticks (100 seconds)
• Mugwort Flowers and Mugwort Leaves to their dried forms: 2000 ticks each (100 seconds)
• Yellow Dock Flowers and Yellow Dock Leaves to their dried forms: 2000 ticks each (100 seconds)

The Rotten Flesh recipe is the rack's main vanilla departure: it gives Leather a source that does not depend on cows.

Collecting and removing items

Right-clicking with an empty hand takes every finished item off the rack and puts it in the player's inventory. Crouching and right-clicking removes every item that is not still drying, including items that have no recipe. Items that are still drying cannot be removed this way, so the player must wait for them to finish.

Breaking the rack drops the contents of all three slots.

Automation

A hopper can insert items into any slot, up to three per slot. It can extract only finished items that have been in their slot for at least 20 ticks (one second). A hopper cannot take out an item that is still drying.

Wall-mounted racks

The Willow, Mahogany and Witch Hazel racks use the same tile logic, the same three slots, and the same drying times and recipes as the Drying Rack. They attach to a solid block behind them. When two wall racks are placed side by side, they connect on their left and right, which changes their model and shape.

• Herb Drying Rack Full is decorative only. It can be converted into a Drying Rack.
• Willow Drying Rack, Mahogany Drying Rack and Witch Hazel Drying Rack are wall-mounted versions. They work the same as the Drying Rack.
