Candles and Candle Dipper are a set of items and blocks added by Hexerei for making decorative, dyeable candles and infusing them with magic. A Candle is a block that holds up to four candles, and each one can be lit with flint and steel. A lit candle with an effect applies that effect to nearby living entities or to the surrounding area. Candles are made in the Candle Dipper, an attachment for the Mixing Cauldron that dips string into tallow or dips candles into potion fluid. The Candelabra, a hanging light that does not go out on its own, is also crafted in the Mixing Cauldron.
Candles are part of Hexerei's herb and candle alchemy. Herbs, wax and potion fluids combine with candles to produce effect candles, which are one of the main reasons to build a candle setup in this pack.

Crafting
A plain Candle is made in the Candle Dipper by dipping string in tallow, and the Candle Dipper itself is made in the Mixing Cauldron. Vanilla candles are also accepted by Hexerei recipes, because they belong to the minecraft:candles and hexerei:tallow_meltable tags. The Candelabra, Wax Blend and tallow items are crafted or filled in the same stations.

Candles and the tallow and wax items on this page appear in the chests of Hexerei structures. Dark Coven chests (see Covens) hold Wax Blend and Bottles of Tallow, and Owl Post Office courier packages (see Owl Post Office) hold Candles. Hexerei chests are one of the containers that Lootr cannot make per-player in this pack, so each chest is shared, first come first served, between players.

Usage
Candles
A Candle block holds up to four candles, each placed on its own position in the block. Candles are lit one at a time in the order they were placed. Candles can be dyed, and a candle can be given a decorative base layer by crafting it with another item, for example a Selenite shard or a redstone block. The base layer does not change how the candle burns or what effect it gives.
A lit candle melts down over time. Each candle layer has a melting speed of 6000 ticks per step, and the candle loses one step each time the timer runs out. A new candle starts with seven steps, so a plain candle stays lit for about 35 minutes. The melting speed multiplier of the layers on a candle (the base, the herb, the glow and the swirl) multiplies together, so an infused candle with a faster melting multiplier burns down sooner.
Candle effects
A candle infused with an effect applies that effect while it is lit. The effect runs on a cooldown of 8 seconds (160 ticks), and the cooldown is scaled by the candle's effect cooldown multiplier. The candle's radius, effect amplifier and effect duration are scaled in the same way by the layers on the candle.
- Potion effects. Every cooldown cycle, each living entity inside a box about 5 blocks around the candle, extending upward roughly 20 blocks, receives the effect. The base duration is 10 seconds, scaled by the effect duration multiplier. Instant effects receive a duration of 1. The mod profile records these potion effects for candles: fire resistance, instant damage, instant health, leaping, luck, night vision, poison, regeneration, slow falling, slowness, speed, strength and water breathing.
- Growth. Every cycle, the candle applies bonemeal to up to three crops near it. It is produced by adding a Mindful Trance Blend to a candle. The Mindful Trance Blend recipe is made in the Pestle and Mortar and adds a herb layer and the growth effect.
- Sunshine. Every cycle, the candle clears the weather for the whole level, not only the area around the candle, and sets a rain delay. The Sunshine candle permanently cleared the weather on this server, so its recipe is disabled in Fear Nightfall and it cannot be made in this pack.
Candle Dipper
The Candle Dipper is attached to the top of a Mixing Cauldron by sneaking and right-clicking the cauldron with the dipper. The cauldron must be filled with tallow for candle recipes to run. The dipper has three slots, and each slot holds one item. When the fluid in the cauldron matches a recipe for an item in a slot, the dipper dips that item. Right-clicking the dipper with an empty hand removes finished candles.
Candle recipes list the following values:
- String in tallow. One string and 50 mB of tallow make a Candle. The recipe uses a drying time of 200 ticks and a dipping time of 200 ticks, with three dips.
- Candle in potion fluid. One Candle and 100 mB of potion fluid make an infused Candle. The recipe uses a drying time of 100 ticks and a dipping time of 150 ticks, with three dips.
The Candle Dipper is not limited to candles. The dipper can make any item in any fluid, provided that a recipe exists for it.
Candelabra
The Candelabra can be placed on top of a block or hung from a block or a chain. Unlike a candle, it does not go out on its own. Water puts it out. The Candelabra is made in the Mixing Cauldron from a chain, two candles, iron ingots and a small amount of water.
Tallow and Wax Blend
Tallow is held as a fluid, in a Bucket of Tallow, or in a Bottle of Tallow. Tallow Impurity is a separate edible item. Animal Fat is one of the items that can be used to make tallow, and it is obtained from cows, pigs and sheep. Looting affects how much Animal Fat drops.
Wax Blend is made in the Pestle and Mortar from glow berries and a flower from the hexerei:flower_biproduct tag. Grinding takes 200 ticks and produces two Wax Blend. Wax Blend is used on a Hexerei connected texture block to wax it and disconnect it. A waxed block connects to other waxed blocks of the same type.
