The Belladonna is a family of herbs added by Hexerei. It consists of the Belladonna Plant, which grows in swamp vegetation, and the items it yields: Belladonna Flowers, Belladonna Berries and Dried Belladonna Flowers. The berries and flowers are ingredients in the Mixing Cauldron, the Pestle and Mortar and the Herb Drying Rack, and they feed several of the mod's brush, dye and candle recipes. The in-game book describes the plant as very poisonous and says it should not be eaten unless prepared.

The plant is a single block that takes four growth stages and is harvested by right-clicking it, in the same way as a sweet berry bush. In Fear Nightfall, the plant and its items are found mainly in the chests of the Covens and Owl Post Office structures, as well as in swamp flower patches. Every item in the family is classed as a herb by the mod, which means it can be stored in a Herb Jar.

Obtaining

Natural generation

Belladonna Plants generate as part of the swamp flower feature. The feature makes three placement attempts per chunk in biomes that carry the common swamp tag (#c:is_swamp). Each attempt places one of four plants with equal chance: Yellow Dock, Mugwort, Belladonna or Mandrake. The mod's profile notes that this tag covers the vanilla swamp and mangrove swamp biomes but not the Hexerei Willow Swamp. A plant placed by the feature starts at growth stage 0, 1 or 2, never at stage 3, so a generated plant has to grow before it gives flowers.

Growth and harvest

The plant has four growth stages, from age 0 to age 3. Each random tick, a plant grows one stage if the block above it has a raw light level of at least 9 and the crop growth check passes. Bone meal advances the plant by one stage, up to stage 3. A plant in a dark area grows slowly or not at all.

Right-clicking a plant at stage 2 or stage 3 harvests it, and the plant returns to stage 0. The yields depend on the stage:

• Stage 2: 0 to 2 Belladonna Berries and no flowers.
• Stage 3 (fully grown): 1 to 5 Belladonna Berries, plus a 50% chance of one Belladonna Flowers.

Stage 3 is therefore the only stage that yields flowers. Right-clicking a stage 0 or 1 plant does nothing. Crows in Harvest mode also treat the plant as a crop-like target, because it is listed in the crow_harvestable block tag. Crows deposit the items they harvest into nearby Coffers and Herb Jars.

Crafting

The shortcode below lists the recipes that produce belladonna items. The plant, the flowers and the berries are gathered from the world. Dried Belladonna Flowers are made in the Herb Drying Rack, which takes 2000 ticks (100 seconds) per item.

Belladonna items appear in the Nature Coven Herbs loot table, which is used by the Covens and Owl Post Office structures. The table gives the chance per chest and the average count for each item. In this pack, Covens are one of the horror structures placed about 30% closer together than in the stock mod, so herb chests are more common than in the original. Hexerei chests are also excluded from per-player Lootr in Fear Nightfall. A shared chest is first come first served, so the herbs in it can be taken by one player before another reaches it.

Usage

Belladonna items have several uses, and each one is a crafting step. The list below is ordered from the most common use to the least common.

Brooms and brushes

Belladonna Flowers are one of several herbs in the Mixing Cauldron recipes for the Wet Enhanced Broom Brush. Those recipes take a Broom Brush or Wet Broom Brush, the herbs, and 1500 mB of water. Broom brushes are fitted to Brooms, and the Enhanced Broom Brush has 200 durability by default.

Pestle and Mortar

The Pestle and Mortar grinds belladonna into dyes and blends. Five Belladonna Berries grind into four Black Dye, and a set of one Belladonna Flowers, three Belladonna Berries and one Sage grinds into one Mindful Trance Blend. Each grinding takes 300 ticks (15 seconds). The Mindful Trance Blend is a candle add-in, and it is used with the Candles and Candle Dipper.

Notebook and Book of Colors

Belladonna Berries are one of the ingredients in the Notebook recipe, which also uses leather, a book and a feather. The Book of Colors recipe uses berries as well, along with white dye, leather, a book and a candle. Both recipes are listed in the crafting ingredient table below.

Drying and satchels

Belladonna Flowers can be dried in the Herb Drying Rack. The Mixing Cauldron recipe for the Replacer Satchel uses dried flowers and takes 1000 mB of potion. Dried flowers are a herb and can be stored in a Herb Jar.

The table below lists the four items and the plant. Belladonna Flowers, Belladonna Berries and Dried Belladonna Flowers each have a compost value of 30%. The Belladonna Plant has a compost value of 100%, and it is a block with 0 hardness and 0 blast resistance that can be broken with any tool. A Potted Belladonna Plant is also available, and it can be placed as decoration.
