The Woodcutter is a stonecutter-style crafting station added by Hexerei. It comes in three wood variants, Mahogany, Willow and Witch Hazel, which differ only in the planks used to craft them. Its recipes are not written in data files. The game builds them when the server starts from the wood items it has loaded, so one block can swap planks between finishes, cut logs into planks, and convert planks into signs, slabs, stairs, doors, boats, chests and other wooden items. Mods that add their own woods are included automatically.

Obtaining

Each Woodcutter is crafted from one iron ingot, two planks of the matching wood and one Andesite. The Mahogany variant uses Mahogany planks, the Willow variant uses Willow planks and the Witch Hazel variant uses Witch Hazel planks.

Usage

Right-clicking a placed Woodcutter opens its menu. The block has four facings, and it is placed facing the player who places it. Mobs do not path through the block.

The menu has one input slot, a list of recipe buttons and one result slot. The result slot cannot be filled by hand. A recipe button appears only when the input stack holds at least the recipe's ingredient count. Taking the result removes that ingredient count from the input stack and gives the recipe's output count. For example, a stack of 5 planks is enough for the chest recipe, which yields one chest.

Generated recipes

Recipes are generated on server start and synced to each player when they join. Their list changes with the set of installed mods, so the recipe list in a given world depends on the pack. The generated recipes are:

• Plank families: Within each wood's set (planks, polished planks, connected planks, polished connected planks, pillars and layered planks), every item converts to every other item at 1 to 1.
• Stripping: An unstripped log converts to its stripped log at 1 to 1.
• Logs to planks: One log converts to 5 planks. The count is 5 for every log that the crafting recipes turn into planks.
• Planks to derived items:
  • 2 planks to 1 sign
  • 1 plank to 2 slabs
  • 1 plank to 2 stairs
  • 2 planks to 1 door
  • 4 planks to 1 boat
  • 8 planks to 1 chest boat
  • Other wooden items (trapdoors, buttons, fences, fence gates and pressure plates) are generated by the same method.
• Vanilla-style items from planks and logs:
  • 1 plank to 3 sticks
  • 1 log to 15 sticks
  • 2 planks to 1 crafting table
  • 4 planks to 1 barrel
  • 5 planks to 1 chest
• Hexerei's own items:
  • 3 Willow planks to 1 Willow Altar
  • 3 Witch Hazel planks to 1 Witch Hazel Altar
  • 3 Mahogany planks to 1 Book of Shadows Altar (see Book of Shadows)
  • 5 planks of each of the three woods to 1 chest of that wood

Hexerei's own wood sets also have explicit recipes outside the generated list.

Because any planks item is included, a swap can change the planks of other mods. A player can therefore convert a plank from one mod's wood into another wood's planks.

Because the generated list is built from every planks, log and recipe in the registry, its size grows with the number of installed wood mods. The generation loop runs over the planks and recipes, so a large pack may see a longer server start. This is inferred from the code and was not measured.

Items

The three Woodcutter variants share the same properties. Each one stacks to 64, has a hardness of 3, a blast resistance of 3 and requires a pickaxe to mine. The variants differ only in the planks they are crafted from.
