The Yellow Dock is a herb family added by Hexerei. It consists of a bush block, two fresh herbs (Yellow Dock Flowers and Yellow Dock Leaves) and their dried forms, made on a Herb Drying Rack. Yellow Dock is one of the plant ingredients used in the mod's Mixing Cauldron recipes, and its herbs also turn up in the chests of the mod's covens and courier offices.

In Fear Nightfall, the herbs are found mainly in horror structures. The Hexerei covens are placed about 30% closer together than in the stock pack, and their chests are shared between players rather than generated per player. Yellow Dock bushes also grow in swamp biomes, including Willow Swamp, Hexerei's replacement for the vanilla swamp.

Obtaining

Yellow Dock is obtained by harvesting the bush, by finding the herbs in structure chests, by crafting the dried forms, or by having a Crow harvest the bush.

Natural generation

Swamp biomes receive Swamp Flowers from Hexerei's vegetation features. Each chunk makes up to three placement attempts, and each attempt places one of four plants chosen at random: a Yellow Dock Bush, a Mugwort Bush, a Belladonna Plant or a Mandrake Plant. A Yellow Dock Bush is therefore one quarter of the candidates in each attempt, before any placement failures. Yellow Dock Bushes are generated at age 2 (of 0 to 3), so a new bush can be harvested immediately.

Harvesting the bush

The Yellow Dock Bush is a two-block-high plant with zero hardness, so it breaks instantly with any tool. Right-clicking the bush harvests it only once it has reached age 2 or 3. Harvesting resets the bush to age 0 and yields the following:

• Age 2: one Yellow Dock Leaves.
• Age 3 (fully grown): two or three Yellow Dock Leaves, plus Yellow Dock Flowers. The flowers are dropped with a 50% chance, and the stack is one or two flowers in that case.

A bush that is not yet ripe cannot be harvested for flowers and gives only one leaf. A bush at age 0 or 1 cannot be harvested at all.

Growth is random. Each random tick, a lower-half bush has a chance to advance one stage while the block above it has a light level of 9 or higher. Bone meal advances the bush directly until it reaches age 3. Yellow Dock Bushes are also in the default harvest set of the Crow "Harvest" command, so a tamed crow can harvest them within its range.

Usage

Yellow Dock is used as a crafting ingredient and as a material for drying, and its bush is a compostable plant.

Drying

The Herb Drying Rack converts fresh Yellow Dock Flowers into Dried Yellow Dock Flowers, and fresh Yellow Dock Leaves into Dried Yellow Dock Leaves. Each conversion takes 2000 ticks (100 seconds). The dried herbs stack to 64 like the fresh ones.

Crafting ingredient

The fresh and dried herbs are inputs to several Mixing Cauldron recipes, which are listed in the table below. The main uses are:

• Broom brushes. Yellow Dock Leaves are an ingredient in the Wet Broom Brush, and Yellow Dock Flowers are an ingredient in the Wet Enhanced Broom Brush. Both wet brushes are used to make Brooms faster.
• Satchels. Dried Yellow Dock Flowers are an ingredient in the Replacer Satchel recipe.
• Crow Ankh Amulet. The Crow Ankh Amulet recipe uses both dried herbs. The amulet is consumed on lethal damage to the crow carrying it, which sets the crow's health to 1 and applies Regeneration II, Absorption and Fire Resistance.
• Herb Drying Rack. A Yellow Dock Bush is one of the ingredients of the Mixing Cauldron recipe that makes a full herb drying rack.

Composting

Yellow Dock Flowers, Yellow Dock Leaves and both dried forms raise a composter level by 30%. The Yellow Dock Bush raises it by 100%.

Yellow Dock is made of four herb items and one plant block:

• Yellow Dock Bush is the plant block. It is the only form that grows.
• Yellow Dock Flowers and Yellow Dock Leaves are the fresh herbs dropped by the bush.
• Dried Yellow Dock Flowers and Dried Yellow Dock Leaves are the outputs of the drying rack.

A potted Yellow Dock Bush and a Yellow Dock variant of the Herb Jar are also registered.
