The Brooms are rideable flying vehicles added by Hexerei. There are three brooms, one for each of the mod's wood families: the Willow Broom, the Mahogany Broom and the Witch Hazel Broom. A broom is ridden by a player, can carry a passenger when a Broom Seat is installed, and can be recalled with a Broom Whistle. Its speed and handling are set by the broom type, a brush in the brush slot, and an optional tip in the misc slot. Brooms are not generated naturally in the world. They are crafted in a Mixing Cauldron or found in Hexerei structures.

In Fear Nightfall, Hexerei covens and huts are placed about 30% closer together than in the base pack, so there are more chances to find brooms in the world.

Obtaining

The three brooms and the broom parts are made in a Mixing Cauldron, using bottled blood, wheat, a Mandrake root, water and a log of the matching wood. The Broom Whistle and the broom stands are made in a normal crafting grid. The brushes that are used in the brush slot are made in a Mixing Cauldron and then dried in a Herb Drying Rack.

Broom entities are also placed in the Hexerei Witch Hut structure. Brush and herb loot appears in Hexerei chests, in the Covens and in the Owl Post Office. In Fear Nightfall, Hexerei chests are shared between players rather than per-player, because Lootr cannot make them per-player.

Usage

A broom is ridden by right-clicking it and is steered with the movement keys. The mod adds three broom keybinds: Up, Down and Dismount. Holding the Down key descends the broom. A rider can open the broom's inventory by crouching and right-clicking it, but the broom must first be placed on the ground.

Speed

Each broom type has a base speed multiplier. The brush in the brush slot then adds to it.

The brush adds the following amounts to the multiplier:

• The Broom Thruster Brush adds 1.5.
• The Moon Dust Brush adds 1.0 when the time of day is between 0.25 and 0.75 on the day cycle (noon to midnight) and the moon is full. At any other time it adds 0.25.
• The Broom Brush and Enhanced Broom Brush add no speed.

Brushes

Brushes are placed in the brush slot. A brush loses one point of durability for every 200 ticks (10 seconds) that a player is steering the broom. When a brush reaches zero durability it is removed from the broom, and the brush slot is empty again. Brushes also produce particle effects while the broom moves.

Durability values are the mod's config defaults. The Wet Broom Brush and Wet Enhanced Broom Brush must be dried in a Herb Drying Rack before they can be used. Drying takes 1000 ticks for the Broom Brush and 2400 ticks for the Enhanced Broom Brush.

Misc tips

The misc slot takes one of three items.

• The Broom Netherite Tip lets the broom fly through lava without the rider burning. The tip makes the broom fire immune. It has 200 durability and loses one point every 20 ticks (1 second) while the broom is in lava. It is made in a Mixing Cauldron that is heated.
• The Broom Waterproof Tip lets the broom travel through water. Without the tip, a broom that stays underwater for 60 ticks (3 seconds) ejects its riders. With the tip, the broom does not eject them. It has 800 durability and loses one point every 20 ticks while underwater.
• The Broom Chain is a stackable item that sits in the misc slot. It is made in a heated Mixing Cauldron from gold ingots, gold nuggets and a chain.

Passengers

A broom carries one rider by default. Installing a Broom Seat in the satchel slot allows a second player to ride. If only one player is on the broom, that player uses the seat. Brooms can also carry Owls, Crows and cats, which are the mobs that can ride a broom. Riding a broom forces a player into the sitting pose.

Broom Whistle

The Broom Whistle calls a bound broom to its owner. To bind it, place the broom and the whistle together in a crafting grid. To unbind it, place the whistle back into the crafting grid. Right-clicking with a bound whistle calls the broom if it is within 64 blocks of the player. The broom is teleported to the player's position and the whistle has a 40 tick (2 second) cooldown. Each use costs one point of the whistle's durability (100 by default), except in creative mode.

Damage and destruction

A broom takes damage when it is hit. Each hit adds ten times the damage of the attack to the broom's damage total. When the total passes 50, the broom is destroyed and drops itself as an item. A creative-mode player destroys the broom without dropping it.

• The Willow Broom has the lowest speed of the three brooms.
• The Mahogany Broom has the highest speed and is fire resistant as an item.
• The Witch Hazel Broom sits between the two in speed.
