Mugwort is a herb plant added by Hexerei. Its Mugwort Bush is a two-block-tall plant that grows in swamps and yields two materials: Mugwort Leaves and Mugwort Flowers. Both are ingredients in Mixing Cauldron recipes for broom brushes and the Crow Ankh Amulet, so players need the plant both early and late in Hexerei's progression.
As a Hexerei herb, mugwort can be stored in Herb Jars, harvested by Crows and composted. The dried forms made in a Herb Drying Rack are used in later recipes.
Obtaining
Mugwort reaches the player through natural generation, chest loot and harvesting a bush. Its materials are not crafted from other items.
Natural generation
The Mugwort Bush is one of four plants in the swamp flower patch feature. The others are the Yellow Dock Bush, the Belladonna Plant and the Mandrake Plant, and each is chosen with equal weight. The feature is placed three times per chunk on biomes in the c:is_swamp tag, which covers vanilla swamps and mangrove swamps. Each generated bush starts at growth stage 0. Hexerei's Willow Swamp biome replaces the vanilla swamp in the overworld, but it is not in that biome tag. Swamp flower patches are therefore not expected to generate there. This follows from the data and has not been confirmed in play.
Chest loot
Mugwort Flowers and Mugwort Leaves are in the Nature Coven Herbs chest loot table. The table is used by the Nature Coven and Owl Post Office structures. Each chest roll has a 19.3% chance of Mugwort Flowers and a 19.7% chance of Mugwort Leaves. When present, the average count is 3.3 flowers and 3.1 leaves.
In Fear Nightfall, Hexerei chests are not made per-player. The herb chests in these structures are shared, and the first player to open a chest takes its contents. The pack also places covens about 30% closer together than in the base mod, so herb chests are more common than before.
Harvesting the bush
Mugwort Bushes are harvested by right-clicking the bush. Harvesting is possible from growth stage 2 or 3.
- At stage 3, the full yield is 1 to 3 Mugwort Leaves and a 50% chance of 1 to 2 Mugwort Flowers.
- At stage 2, the amounts are roughly halved.
- After harvesting, the bush resets to stage 0.
The bush can be broken instantly by hand or with any tool. Breaking the lower half drops one Mugwort Bush item.
Crows in Harvest mode also harvest Mugwort Bushes. The bush is in the crow_harvestable block tag. Crows deposit the resulting items into nearby Coffers and Herb Jars.
Growth
The Mugwort Bush has four growth stages (age 0 to 3). It grows through random ticks when the block above it has a light level of at least 9. Each successful tick advances the bush by one stage. Bone meal also advances the bush by one stage, and the bush does not accept bone meal at stage 3.
Mugwort Bushes can be placed in a flower pot as a Potted Mugwort Bush.
Usage
Mugwort's main use is as a Mixing Cauldron ingredient. The in-game book says mugwort is channelled into lunar magic, and the dried forms have no magical effect of their own.
Broom brushes
Mugwort Leaves are one of the ingredients of the Wet Broom Brush. The Wet Broom Brush is made in a Mixing Cauldron with Mandrake Root, wheat, Yellow Dock Leaves and water. Mugwort Flowers are part of the recipes for the Wet Enhanced Broom Brush. Brushes add speed to a broom when used with it. The Enhanced Broom Brush has a default durability of 200.
Drying
In a Herb Drying Rack, one Mugwort Flowers or one Mugwort Leaves dries into one dried item in 2000 ticks, which is 100 seconds. The dried items are Dried Mugwort Flowers and Dried Mugwort Leaves. Both are used as Mixing Cauldron ingredients. The Replacer Satchel uses dried flowers, and the Crow Ankh Amulet uses both dried flowers and dried leaves.
